You could post your location and see if there is a local DVDTalker that would buy it for you with their Costco membership. I once bought a couple of Simpsons sets at Costco for another DVDTalker and arranged to meet him in the parking lot. Maybe you can work it out the same way.

If it is the case that you didn't get the discount without a membership card, you could probably get someone in line to scan theirs for you. As long as you are paying, it shouldn't matter.
Actually, shouldn't the card be associated with the member that purchased it?
I guess the best idea would be to call the store and ask about it.

Some Costco locations have gotten mildly strict on that behavior. Most of their profit comes from the membership dues and they don't want non-member freeloaders buying up merchandise most of the time. It's a minor problem in the more urban areas where an office worker will take his fellow non-member office workers at lunch to Costco. I've actually seen people denied from buying something.

What do they care about who buys their cheap food ? Junk food at best...you've seen the size of the patrons that are munching away on those pizza slices and downing gallons of endless coke...Costco ought to be castigated for encouraging such an irresponsible eating fare

There are two Costco's where I live and the newest one has their food court outside where anyone and everyone is welcome to buy food. My guess is that Costco doesn't really care who buys the food.

Here are a few items that I noticed at the "Brookhaven" Costco in Atlanta yesterday. Although the stickers on each item had "regular" pricing, the display tables had Instant Savings price cards, which reflected "discount" pricing.
I don't recall prices for some of the items, but those that I remember are noted below. All are Blu-ray unless otherwise noted:
Twilight Zone Complete Collection: $119.99
Lawrence of Arabia 50th Anniversary Edition: ???
Warner Brothers Gangster Collection Vol 1 (DVD):$9.99
Tarantino XX: 8-Film Quentin Tarantino Collection: ???
Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: ???
Matrix Collection: ???
Harry Potter Wizard's Collection: $299.99
Steve McQueen Collection (DVD):$9.99
Marx Brother's Collection - Green Box (DVD)$9.99
Bugsby Berkeley Collection (DVD) $9.99
Forever Marilyn:???
Joan Crawford Collection (DVD):$9.99
Bogart & Bacall Collection (DVD):$9.99
Jaws - Universal 100 Anniv Version: $9.99
There were many more titles - I just can't remember them all. Prices are valid until 12/24.

See the Costco DVD thread for some Fox box sets for $10.99 each on some movie classics.

TZ would be about $132 after tax for me. I just can't seem to pull the trigger. Don't you think thisd is going to pop up at Amazon for $100 eventually?

Harry Potter Wizards Collection was down to 249 today at my local Costco. Others were discounted further, but it was such a madhouse I didn't stick around too long.

I doubt it. The DVD collection has only dropped just under $100 only 4 times in the last 4 years. Now if it was dropping to around $50, then I could see the blu-ray set going to $100 but that won't be anytime soon.

Re: Costco instant discounts OMG
Are any of these discounts variable by location? I picked up Forever Marilyn and the Dirty Harry set for the prices mentioned above, but the Harry Potter set didn't register any discount. They even looked it up on their computer and couldn't find any sort of discount available for it (just the marked price of $49.99). Still a good price, but an extra $10 off would have been quite welcome. Any knowledge out there? (This was at the Colma store just south of San Francisco, for what it's worth.)

I believe the Lawrence of Arabia collector's set is $49.99.
However, it can be purchased for under $40 currently at Barnes & Noble during their 40% off all BD's sale (through 12/24) if:

-you have a membership (gives extra 10% off)
-you have a 25% or 30% off coupon (sent out by email)

I believe it works out to be something like $36+ or $38+ pre-tax, depending on whether you have a 25% or 30% coupon.

Re: Costco instant discounts OMG
Thanks for the thoughts, Manzana and Classic Films. I did in fact complete the purchase when I went, but still no discount. So that wasn't the factor. Oh well--it was worth a shot!
