Assume that all of these are available to all customers unless specifically listed as member only like the Welcome Package. Also remember that any preliminary codes are just that and BN could pull it, change the details or exclusions anything prior to release so always a bit of YMMV until the final release date

Mini FAQ
Coupons should not work for PREORDERS , Nook, Legos, Rosetta Stone, Digital, Gift Cards, Memberships, etc. There are glitches where sometimes an excluded item will be allowed but assume that is the exception to the rule

Max 3 GC on a single online order.
Online only a single code can be applied to an order

Online ordered items can returned to a local store unless it's classified as a web-only item then it's at the store's discretion to accept

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

The double whammy for Amazon was raising their margins at the exact same time they consented to charging tax in most states. Amazon capitulated and their pricing structure has never really recovered. I don't think it matters from their perspective, Amazon realized several years ago the consumers they are going after are very similar to Costco. Most Amazon shoppers are wealthy, upper middle class families with more money than time on their hands.

Amazon isn't particularly upset at losing value conscious customers. I know my purchases have drastically declined from Amazon in the past three years and would be even less if they weren't the last CD retailer left standing.

I don't understand why tax would be an issue or why it ever even has to be mentioned in this forum. Before Amazon collected it, one had to pay it separately come tax season, it's much easier to just get it over with at time of purchase.

Uh...yeah. Right.

Alabama just recently started making people sign something confirming they had no internet purchases if they do not claim any at tax time. Massive audit red flag and now you have to at least claim a few hundred dollars or you are just asking for an audit.

And I never understood why there were always people that chimed in with replies like this, as though people actually did this.

It only impacts small sole proprietar businesses, who can get caught during state audits (I've had a state audit, fortunately I passed with flying colors). In practice, it has no impact on anyone else.

Because some us do pay the tax on internet sales? Yes, I pay it every year (in my state I only have to pay the state sales tax rate, not local sales taxes). It is a nuisance but I do it because I prefer to be honest and not cheat on taxes. Am I aware that most people don't pay the tax? Yes, of course. Doesn't change a thing.

I do find it annoying when people here brag about how they cheat on their taxes by not paying use/sales tax on their internet purchases and, especially, when they piss and moan about how Amazon now collects sales taxes in some jurisdictions. Oh, the horror!

Just because some people do pay it doesn't have much bearing on my reply; in the context of a bargain, and the fact that most people probably aren't/weren't aware of any tax requirements, changes plenty in my opinion. Make a purchase, go on your merry way. It's hardly bragging. And as far as this specific discussion goes, the point is that the tax change has most certainly had at least some impact on shopping at Amazon. It's obvious why it's mentioned, whether you find it annoying or not.

And all of the above talk shows that Amazon's early sale sucks so far.

I'm not paying tax on items I've bought after the fact. If a state wants to enforce tax on online purchases then that's one thing but it's kind of silly to expect people to pay tax after the fact if they aren't charging it up front when you purchase an item in my opinion.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

From a small business prospective there are 2 main problems with 50 state on line sales tax for all on line business:

1. The accounting cost. I pay $35-$50 to an accountant as it is to do the sales tax in just the 1 state I am located in.

2. The s&h is already often higher than gas to go to a B&M. If you add in sales tax in states where I don't have a physical presence, why would any sane customer pay both s&h AND sales tax? As it is, I get very few orders from my home state where I am required to charge almost 10% sales tax.

I also have political feelings regarding this issue; but I'll keep those to myself.

Who gives a shit about taxes? Either you pay them or you don't.

Back to the real issue at hand - are there any good deals coming up soon with this whole pre-Thanksgiving/BF sales stuff?

Nope, not yet. The only decent deals that I found:

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (10th Anniversary Special Edition) $4.96 (out of stock, will ship whenever)

Megamind (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) $5.99
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron $5.99

Rio $6.96

Friends: Season 1 $9.03

Have at it.

While I expect that Amazon will match prices from other stores, there isn't much to look at thus far at Amazon, so far as I am aware. Best Buy has some decent deals.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

A bunch of stuff went cheap at midnight on Amazon, though the vast majority of it is either old stuff that has seen many BFs or new stuff that will be further discounted.

Thus far, IMO, the only discounts of significance are Heaven is For Real @ $2.99!! and HG: Mockingjay Part 1 @ $9.99. And I'm looking to see if MJ supposed to be much lower in a BF ad.

Update: Unless I overlooked something, MJ will be $9.00 at Target. I'll wait just in case Amazon does something with this in an LD.

Best Buy right now has Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 Blu-Ray/DVD/Ultraviolet Digital Copy for $9.99.
You also get $8.00 Movie Money via Fandango towards seeing Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.

I went ahead and ordered one - yeah Amazon may be cheaper come later this week - $7.99? - but they not offering the movie money.
