Hit dt last weekend. Still had tons of stuff from the last batch. Nothing of note that hasn't been mentioned.
$1.25 at the dt by my home.

$1.25 is the new price for most everything at Dollar Tree nationwide.

don't know if it's a country wide rollout at the same time. It was already $1.25 here in CA but late Dec, I was traveling in NM and it was still a dollar there. Heard from a store employee that they will rename the store to Dollar Plus or something like that

Came across a location with a fairly healthy stock of DVDs and even a few CDs, the first time I've come across any CDs. The CDs were far more interesting but I did get Justified Season Three on BD. There weren't many Blu-rays beyond one of the Patriots Super Bowls and a couple Echo Bridge cheapie titles.

The end of an era, and a very sad casualty of pandemic inflation. Stores near me are still $1, but an employee told me the price change is imminent. I think they should just change the name to Dollartwentyfive Tree.

Gobs and gobs of the same old crummy DVD’s at my local DT. No new BR :(

Same here. TONS of new + existing stock of DVD, but not a single BR. The one interesting DVD in this last haul was a lone copy of Behind The Player: Ace Frehley (housed in a super jewel case) at one store I visited.

I found a really decent JJ Cale compilation of stray and unreleased tracks from Time-Life.

Is this as tall as a DVD? Your picture makes it look like something between a Jewel Case and a Super Jewel Case. Also Ace Frehley is a degenerate.

Apparently stores are getting another shipment of DVDs and CDs in early March.

There's no real rush needed anymore checking out Dollar Tree's movies. The re-sellers who used to swoop in and buy out entire locations have dried up, as the movies DT carries these days aren't hot sellers on the secondary market.

Some locations have barely gotten rid of the last wave, much less this coming wave.

inksketcher 02-22-22 03:28 PM

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

My store has several boxes of the MGM films from the last wave. I doubt they'll get rid of many of them, which means they might not have space to put out anything new. Plus they have raised the price to $1.25 so that might slow purchases a bit as well.

cabler30 02-25-22 03:38 AM

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

Yea, i can see resellers was totally stockpiling i guess before store went 1.25 ea movie so seller had to charge more to make back profit any. last time i got any was maybe 4 movies with extras any i cared to get at time. but since all stores i guessing selling cds now i wonder if resellers are trying to stock that stuff any. i know years ago before my place moved to bigger space they sold cds any and then stopped but not getting any again by chance cause the price change i guess gonna get cds again from what i seen from past youtube videos. i saw a cd i might have got but was not sure but guessing i go back it might be sold lol.

Sound! Euphonium the movie
Napping Princess
Liz and the blue bird
Digimon tri Confession otters found (Reunion, Coexistence)
Panic (seal overslip)

Re: Dollar Tree BLU Rays!

I didn't find much anime on Blu-ray but I did find many new arrivals to Dollar Tree I hadn't seen before.

The most interesting were St. Agatha, Monster Party, and Gloria Bell. The Blu-ray mix was peppered with cheap Echo Bridge budget titles, scattered selections from RLJ entertainment, and other indie distributors. Some Canadian versions as well. Many horror DVDs from a variety of labels, including Shudder movies.

I found another Justified - Season Three Blu-ray, which I left. Sony must have vastly overproduced that set.

Since I reviewed them all when they were released, here are my thoughts on

Satellite girl and milk cow - Off-beat anime from Korea, if you are only used to Japanese anime you may find this movie too weird and quirky.
Napping Princess - Fun, little anime which was made in anticipation of Tokyo hosting the 2020 Olympics. Ghibli fans should enjoy this movie. Highly recommended
Liz and the blue bird - A spin-off film set in the Sound! Euphonium universe, starring two characters from it. Perfectly watchable drama set in high school with recognizable themes commonly found in anime.
Big Fish and Begonia - Stunning Chinese production aimed at younger audiences, made in the Disney family mold with distinct Chinese values.

It's becoming hard to tell when official media sales are going on at Dollar Tree since stores seem to be overwhelmed with stuff. I did stop by a store in a neighboring town today that had the entire front table filled up.

I purchased 3 BDs I had not seen there before. All of these were blind buys, having not heard of them before checking reviews.

Emma Smith: My Story
If She Screams
Underdog (2019)

Walmart wanted cheap BDs in store and Echo Bridge answered the call. The Hollywood studios decided selling their movies for $5 in Walmart bins devalued their entire lines and stopped offering Walmart many cheap discs. A studio with its overhead and royalty contracts likely aren't netting much on any physical media sold below $8-10.

I may have bought one or two of the Echo Bridge discs at Walmart, but it was a severe drop-off from the days when the Walmart bins were stuffed full with legitimate Hollywood films.

Kroger's West Coast chain "Fred Meyer" used to carry big dump bins of Echo & Mill Creek before they largely got out of selling "media".

I was surprised to find a massive stock of new media this weekend. Mostly a mix of DVDs and BDs which have been circulating the past couple months, including the aforementioned Echo Bridge BDs. There were some new movies on DVD at least I hadn't seen before.

When i get media i try find any movies i heard of or has good cast and plenty of xtras. i dont worry about who made the media as long as watchable. forgot the last time i got media walmart from bins any. so when i can i check and see what worth getting.

Local store loaded with Echo Bridge schlock, picked up 8 of them but couldn't get my mind to oblige 7 of them. So out the store with 'Wolvesbayne' only cos it was a steelbook. What is EB's business model ? Surely they're not making money with this, all their titles are a BD + DVD combo too

all of them have their respective English soundtrack and subtitles. Just that the disc will default to Spanish language being a Mexican release

Found some new stuff out today. Picked up the following:

300
Beneath the Harvest Sky
The Final Member
Jimmy Buffett: Welcome to Fin City
Journey to the West
Standard Operating Procedure
A Star is Born
Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends (DVD)

Also saw IT on BD as well but left it there. Also of interest, everything above rang up for $1 and not $1.25.

FWIW -- the ones ringing up for $1 have a UPC sticker ending in 7304 should anyone want to compare with what they find.

Which Star Is Born? Gaga remake or original?

I just threw away the receipt. I do recall glancing at it though and believe most everything rang up, "July 2022" or something similar. So not exactly old. Just seems like they may have used an older UPC sticker as I mentioned before.

Well, I did come across the new wave. Mostly DVDs again, but a few new BDs sprinkled into the mix. The most interesting DVD set I saw was the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn.

I saw It, Truth or Dare, Hidden Kingdoms (BBC), Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker, a few more.
