Re: Barnes and Noble Criterion/Art House Sale 10/30/12-11/19/12

Picked up the 3 December titles I want (The Following, Qatsi Trilogy, and Brazil) for now. Will wait to see what Best Buy has in stock, so I can price match and purchase there with the $50 GC I have.

I was thinking of getting a couple of titles there as well with my $30 in reward zone certs. Do I just show them the price of each title from my phone and that it is in stock at the local BN? I checked it out and it says "online price". Wonder if that matters?

Will Best Buy honor a sales price? I have no idea.

In my experience, I've both brought up the item page on BN.com on my phone and presented them with printouts and had them confirm the price on BN.com on their own computers in the store. Both worked in getting them to price match as long as there is a physical BN nearby so that they are considered a "local competitor."

The first time, I did it, the BN was two blocks away, so it was a match the price or I walk out and into the other store and just buy it there situation. The second time, the BN was about a 10 minute drive away and was still considered a local competitor and they matched. YMMV as always on price matches at Best Buy though.

Ordered the late November and December titles that I wanted:

The Qatsi Trilogy
Purple Noon
Eclipse: Shochiku Horror

Will go to the store once the Pasolini set comes out and pick up a few more titles with my member discount.

Speaking of the Trilogy of Life set...has anyone read any comparisons to the discs put out a while ago by BFI?

I have those and don't feel a strong need to re-buy them, but was wondering if there was some sort of bombshell-like difference I was missing.

It appears the only active coupons are the member ones ($5 off 50, $8 off 40, etc.)

If that is the case, since I have a membership I may try seeing if I can stack those online with the sale. The hurricane has made it virtually impossible to get around here--roads closed, traffic lights non-functional--so if the savings are the same, I'd just as soon order them and wait until whenever they get here.

With so much power out, I have no idea if the store is even open.

B&N stopped the Buzz coupons last month. Also when you go to the Buzz page you're now redirected to the B&N web site. However I was told the $5 store coupon code they originally sent out by text message when you first signed up might still work, but I have not seen any actual proof it is still valid. So it's a big ymmv if a store would still accept it, or if it would come up expired if you tried to use it.

I'm not a member and didn't see any coupons that were for non-members, plus AAA no longer offers their store discount (fucking AAA), so I just paid the normal 50% off price. Total came to $222.85 with tax.

I have a BB literally right next to B&N.
for those price matching have they given you the price after discount that would match BN or the full 50% off the BB price?

There are enough reports of the former now that I don't believe it's just a couple people blowing smoke even though it's obviously not how BBY is supposed to do it, but nice work if you can get it.
Posted this in the Criterion coupon forum. I showed the cashier the BN webpage with the 50% off I printed out and she asked if this was a close-out sale price. I said no and she proceeded to take 50% off the BBY price. It didn't seem like a popular title; I asked on Sunday how many copies the store was getting (6) and when I got there this afternoon, all 6 copies were still on the shelf. Just glad it worked out for me. As others have said though, this is very YMMV.

I don't get where Best Buy is getting $12.50 from. Are they taking 50% off THEIR price? (So are they selling it for $25?)

And of course, Barnes & Noble releases a Halloween coupon right after I place an order for 3 Criterions. I may place it again & return my first order, though the website is down at the moment due to maintenance.

Wonder if it is "down for maintenance" so that they can block the coupon from being used for the majority of items.

I got one but will use it in store if 15% or more, obviously. Hopefully if it doesn't scan correctly the CSR will type it in.

No, you just need to be signed up to receive their emails. Mine was for $3 off.
