E.T. was one of the earliest movies my wife and i saw when we were dating. I picked her up the DVD when that was released and she's never watched it so I won't bother upgrading.

Naturally I just bought Alien(s) a few weeks ago from Amazon. Wonder if I should return and buy them from BB?

Wonderful...just went to pre-order the E.T. digibook for $24.99 and had a nice plan all set up. Namely, if I got to the store and couldn't find it on the shelves, I'd take my pre-order for $24.99. If I got there and they had plenty of them out, I'd get one off the shelf, do the upgrade and save deal, and cancel the other one.

You guessed it...my store shows it unavailable for pre-order. Every other store in the area is offering it.

Might just get it shipped for $24.99 and be done with it.

unfortunately I don't think the preorder would work to my advantage I have one gift card, three RZ coupons and one used DVD to throw into the mix - I'd have to preorder it, then 'return it' then buy it again.

I don't know. If the Jaws debacle was any indicator it's not a risk I'd want to take.

I had some expiring reward certs I had to use anyway, so NBD.

Same here. I just checked online and it's now showing as unavailable to pre-order at more stores in my area than before. I just ordered one to be shipped to me. I have no problem paying the extra $5 if it means I know I'll get one.

The Jaws digibook ended up costing me more than this. I'll use my DVD trade-ins on something else.

Of course, now it's guaranteed there will be copies all over the store on Tuesday.

If that ends up the case, buy it again and do a return of the online shipment later on.

I was mulling that option over. I guess it's not much more annoying than just cancelling the in-store pickup, if I had gone that route. I'll see what happens on Tuesday.

My pre-order is in the no-cancel stage, so at least it appears I will get this regardless of store availability.

Re: Best Buy Ad 10/07 - 10/13/12

Just a heads-up for anyone who might be interested in buying the four Aliens movies at $5 a pop with the trade-in, amazon.co.uk has the movies-only version of the Anthology boxed set for about $19 shipped to the USA right now, and you don't have to trade any DVDs in.

Of course, if you don't want the whole series or are allergic to UK ratings logos, this won't apply.

EDIT: I apologize; it's not clear that Alien Resurrection will be $4.99 after trade since it's not in the BB ad (which considering that movie's reputation might be good news to some of you).

For the movie-only BDs of the complete series, the UK set remains the best deal.

Carry on...

Re: Best Buy Ad 10/07 - 10/13/12

Was just perusing the ad and noticed you can get $5 off any Blu-ray $9.99 or higher just for having them check the upgrade status on your phone. You need not be eligible or purchase in order to receive the coupon.

As an aside, I had BB do my last upgrade and thought the overall process was better than at the Verizon store. Most of the phones were cheaper and no rebates to mail in. And no I don't work for BB nor do I have any grudge against Verizon

Going to be an expensive month. ET is a bit high for a catalog title, might pick it up in a year or 2. 3-D Prometheus will be mine though. And hopefully that set of Horror blues posted a few weeks ago are still ringing $10 before coupon. Something like The Innkeepers, Deadgirl, ect.

There are still Jaws digibooks at my local store. Though they are from the midweek restock from release week. I hate to pre-order something and then not pick it up, but I might do it just to insure one is there for me.

question - can you combine the $3 off coupon, and use the U&S (-$5) for E.T (digi)?

You should be able to use a Universal $3 coupon and a Best Buy Upgrade & Save coupon in the same order.

I just ordered ET as insurance, in case it is sold out before I get there. I missed out on Jaws, so don't want to gamble again...

I picked up another copy of Alien and Aliens for $5 each. I'll return the ones I just got from Amazon. Also got Grosse Point Blank for $10. Was going to get another $5 for going to the cell phones and having them check my upgrade status but there were about 5 people waiting and I didn't see another title I had to have today.

Re: Best Buy Ad 10/07 - 10/13/12

Had a hard time getting the lady to take the $3 Printable Coupon ontop of U&S but she eventually relented, scoring The Dead for $7.

Along with most of the $10 Horror endcap blues for $5 each.

My BB decided to mix all their BRs and DVDs together across the entire store so it is a bit of a clusterfuck at the moment, hope they don't all do this.

Today was probably my first time in BB since they last did the Upgrade and Save three months ago. I'd heard about the "re-organizing" of the optical media at some stores, and they have done it at my store too. Not a big fan of this. DVDs and BDs for each title were jumbled together in something resembling alphabetical order for each subsection.

"Reorganizing", as in reducing the size of the department....again.

Most of the stores in my area have been remodeled or are in the process of doing so and the end result is this mix of blus and dvds. Not only that but their selection has decreased by about 50% or more it seems. I don't like it.

I was approached by one of their mobile reps to do an upgrade check. She was roaming the store and approaching people with BDs in their hands asking if they'd like to save $5. She used an iPad to check our upgrade eligibility.

You can always show up, cancel the pre-order and then just purchase the item. I do that all the time to apply coupons and stuff on scarce items. Did that with the Hunger Game box, with the Witcher 2 game to apply my @Gamer coupon, and with Uncharted 3 CE when that dropped in price.
