Sherlock: Season two price

Any good price on this one? It will be released on May 22.

Amazon. $27.96 looks about as good as you can do right now; even eBay's lowest is $29.99.

If you don't need it right away, B&N will eventually have it for 50% off during one of their British sales, then cheaper with a coupon and/or membership... That's what I'm holding out for.

Amazon UK had it for $22.95 (£10.47 - VAT + shipping) for a time, it's at £13 now, so now it's the same as the US, although still slightly [pinch] cheaper.

But you might want to wait and see if it drops down again before getting a US copy. It is region-free.

The UK releases of Sherlock are 1080i/50hz which renders them unplayable on a lot of US players. The US releases are 1080i/60hz and if you can wait it out, the price is going to drop.

The B+N deal is also what I held out for on Season 1. It ended up being $9.99 as it was on sale for $19.99. What a deal!!!

That was my take away lesson on season one. Played the odds and lost.

Does this (unplayable list) include the PS3?

I can confirm this. I bought the Season 2 Blu-ray from AmazonUK when it came out. And it wouldn't play on either my PS3 or Panasonic players.

I cannot find SH Season 2 at any store: Target, Best Buy...

Can anyone explain why I cannot find the SH Season 2 BR at a BM Store?

Probably because they didn't expect it to be a hot seller. It'll more than likely slowly start to pop up in B&M stores over the next few weeks,

Since it's shown on PBS here in the US it isn't likely to be carried at all by Target and the like. I don't ever recall seeing season one at Target, Best Buy, Walmart...

I've seen season 1 at Target and Best Buy. Not sure about Wal-Mart, but then again the location close to me has a very unkept BD/DVD section.

The Wal-Mart in Garfield, NJ, had one copy of season 2 on DVD yesterday afternoon. I've been seeing more and more BBC and other UK TV titles showing up at Target of late, such as Top Gear, modern Doctor Who, Merlin and [b]Downton Abbey.

Re: Sherlock: Season two price

Can someone confirm that the UK Blu-Rays are in fact region-free? If so, I'll just buy the UK discs. The Amazon.co.uk reviews were unhelpful -- I can't tell if the people complaining that it wasn't "region free" were just dummies who didn't understand that these were 50i discs that wouldn't play on many American players.

They are region free but if you live in the US, you'll need a player capable of playing or outputting a 50hz signal. Otherwise, it's a waste of money... the US releases are also region free but 60hz.

Great, thanks. I bought an LG player that handles 50i discs a while back, but most internet commenters seem to get confused by "region encoding" vs. 50Hz/60Hz issues, and so there seems to be confusion about some of these discs.

Very few BBC BDs produced for the UK market are region B only, most are region-free. Though many are in the dreaded 1080i/50Hz format. Most of their shows are produced and broadcast that way.

Re: Sherlock: Season two price

Since I just watched them all on the HD PBS channel, I can wait out a price drop on BLU ray. Of course I ended up getting S1 on BLU from Amazon for around $22 due to some percent off BLU code they had at the time and can't count on that happening again.

Re: Sherlock: Season two price

Just a reminder that B&N gift cards can routinely be found online for 10-14% off their face value, from any of the various online gift card resellers. Nice discount because it stacks with any coupon or sale without any trouble. A good strategy for me was to stock up on gift cards a month or two before the Criterion sale.

I've had good luck buying from Plastic Jungle in the past. The selection of denominations varies over time, pays to check back occasionally.

I went for the B&N w/ 20% off, for about 19 and some change shipped.
