Re: International Blu-ray deals

Zavvi is charging sales tax on my order. It makes the price point a wash compared to buying the same titles in the US. Is there any workaround to avoid sales tax for shipping to the US? Neither Arrow, Eureka nor Amazon.co.uk ever charge sales tax to US orders.

None of them have US based Business, Warehouse, Customer Call Centers -- or at least Zavvi's corporate owner does. Short of moving to a state that has no sales tax I don't see a way around it. I first noticed the Zavvi
sales tax somewhere near the end of last year or early 2019.
I am told there are now states that do have sales tax on AmazonUk orders

I'm in Wa state, which started this tax nonsense & is probably the most aggressive about it. As of this moment, Amazon.UK is not charging me tax. If they ever do, for financial reasons I would not complete the order. Int shipping + 11% tax = unaffordable on ANYTHING.

I think it's only a matter of time before the international Amazons begin charging state sales tax.

Not sure why as international companies (those who are based out of the US), are not subject to the tax rule. Only those who are based in the US and do business in the US, and I'm pretty sure each Amazon website is independent and based outside the US.

Ordered. I hope I get it! I usually don't do this on oos, but I ate the high Amazon conversion rate & let them bill me in USD at a 4.5% premium. Who knows what the exchange rate will be when they get it back in.

Thanks, ordered that one also. If the exchange rate drops & the price doesn't go up, I'll try to cancel & reorder.

Re: International Blu-ray deals

Since we're talking about Amazon.uk, I got a 20% of 4K movies code for ordering from their site. Not sure if anyone else did.

I had a preorder and saw the promotion offer so I cancelled and reordered. The email said I would qualify to receive a code.

I did. I just have to find something that works out as a "deal", compared to buying from the U.S.

That's my problem with the promo... can't find anything that's a better deal.

Weird, they've fully billed my card (NOT a hold) for vol 2 with an expected 11/27 delivery, but they only put a hold on vol #1 with no delivery date yet. I ordered V1 before v2..............

Re: International Blu-ray deals

The Hitchcock thing ended up being a major mess. I was billed for both (not a hold, but fully billed) with no expected arrival date (oos) on 1 & a Novemeber 27 date on the other though that wasn't the case when I ordered. One rep swore I hadn't been billed & when I asked for a manager the rep said the manager would agree with him. Fortunately, the manager did not agree. Than yesterday, I received another email saying I hadn't been billed. At that point I had my FIFTH online "chat" regarding this mess & successfully got the orders cancelled & the refund arrived today. These were ordered on 9/11/19.

I am going to be hesitant about using Amazon.UK going forward. While the "fake" prices were great, this was way too much of a headache. I wish these mega corps would bring cs back to their home countries. There is just too many cultural & training issues with CS in India.

Amazon.co.uk has become less and less attractive as a viable option. I used to order from them all the time and have only ordered one thing from them the past six months.

Any recommendations for other UK retailers (price & service) for both music & film? Grooves in Germany is one I use. Free international ship at $22 USD & the occasional great price. I also have been pleased ordering directly from Eureka/MOC UK.

Re: International Blu-ray deals

I noticed that even if you order something and immediately cancel the order from Amazon UK you are charged and credited.

Sep 13, 2019 AMAZON.CO.UK 4 AM
Shopping −$39.65 See details about this transaction

I am guessing you contacted customer service because you were concerned if you just canceled the order the money would not have been refunded. In the above case it was refunded. Of course I didn't know I had been charged until I saw my statement.
I didn't notice this until I started using an Amazon credit card. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I had something like that happen and in the few hours between them charging and then refunding my payment, the exchange rate must have changed and I ended up being shorted about 26 cents.

I guess that is a case for choosing to be billed in US dollars. If you are credited for a cancelled purchase you should be refunded in US dollars and not lose anything due to the exchange rate.
