They are *absolutely* enjoyable - though not as much as TLOTR Extended trilogy. I've watched both versions once but couldn't say which I like better. It's easy with TLOTR but not so much with The Hobbit. I'm still torn on this as I own the DVD Extended editions and they look *very* good on my equipment. Because the DVDs look so good I'm trying to justify the expense since there's so much "previously unviewable" British TV series I'd like to purchase now that I'm "region free."

House The Complete Collection is down to £34.99, which according to camelcamelcamel is the lowest price offered. Comes out to around $42 shipped using Amazon's conversion converter. If I had not got in on that insane deal on the dvd boxed set over at Columbia House a couple of years ago, I would jump on it.

That might be too tempting to resist. House was one of my favorite shows back then, but I got rid of cable and never saw the last season or two. Of course, I own most of the seasons on DVD, unopened, so hopefully I realize that this is a once or twice in my lifetime watch at best and move along.

A lot of box sets went on sale at Amazon UK this evening. The Hitchcock set with N/NW, Dial M and Throw Strange Mommas from a Train works out to $15 or so with shipping. --peter

Hellraiser Trilogy is down to £19.99 which I'm pretty sure is the cheapest it's been yet, comes out to about $25 shipped. Arrow's releasing the Scarlet Box in the US soon but that's pretty expensive, and I assume they'll release a regular trilogy release after that and I wonder if the US release will get this low.

Their US sets rarely ever get as low as the UK sets. Not sure why but that is why I am region free and buy most Arrow UK stuff instead of the US release.

It might if Amazon US matches but it will be a quick sale.

The Scarlet Box is a great set, and will probably be reduced eventually, if you're into the exclusive 200-page booklet that is really nice and the extra bonus disc is worth it as well. 10K units are being made, so you could hold out for a potential $60-$70 price without the fear of it getting sold out.

re: International Blu-ray deals

First 5 Seasons of Once Upon A Time about $57 shipped to the USA, Region Free.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Once-Upon-S...a+time+blu+ray

Warehouse 13 Complete Series about $26 shipped to the USA Region Free This just went out of stock . I changed the link to all sellers so you can order the Out of Stock item. Previous link took you to 3rd party with stock. Hold "ctrl" to get to UK site.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-li...&condition=new

I believe if an item is unique to the UK, link will take you directly to the UK site. If item also available in the US you need to hit "crtl" key when clicking on link.

The American dollar is stronger than ever at the moment. This combination of a strong dollar and Black Friday sales is creating a perfect storm.

This is the time to jump in for fence-sitters nervous about importing from Europe.

Thinking about getting The François Truffaut Collection and Godard Collection. Sure, a couple of those have already been released through Criterion but a few have not and Une Femme Marie, which I also have from Masters of CInema, is OOP.

$47.60 shipped the USA for both.

re: International Blu-ray deals

are we mentioning region B blu-ray bargains in this thread? I thought those would go to the international thread, and only region free bargains in this thread.

I am okay either way. Have noticed a lot of great prices for region B titles and was hesitant to mention them here....

Just trying to understand the scope of this thread.

I think in this subforum we should try to stick to region-free.

What a score, THANK YOU! Amazon added about $1.00 USD to the exchange rate, but my Visa Debit would have likely added more, so I happily went for the $25.84

re: International Blu-ray deals

There are several 4 film sets from Universal by decade. They are Region B locked per the listings. However, as an example all the individual releases for the 1960's films except The Birds (listed as Untested) is listed as Region A playable per bluray.com I also know the The Birds is Region Free as part of the Hitchcock set. The choices are pretty random.

1960s
The Birds, Sparticus, To Kill A Mockingbird, The War Wagon $15 shipped to USA
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Films-That-...524971&sr=1-86

1970's

1980's
The Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf in London, Scarface, The Thing $15 shipped to USA

1990's

Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Series [Blu-ray] [2004-2009][Region Free] (use CTRL for link) - $25.42 shipped using Amazon currency converter. That's the lowest it's been since 12/6/15 (it was £17.99 then, £19.99 now) and the 3rd lowest price historically.

Seriously considering this. Without doing lots of research, is there any difference between the UK and US sets...excluding trivial things like packaging, subtitles, and menus?

Edit: Nevermind. Lots of others have asked, too. The UK "tin" is no more, and it's 8 keep cases in a cardboard box with the booklet. Otherwise the BD content is the same.

re: International Blu-ray deals

The Complete Downton Abby Series is about $36 shipped to US.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Not sure if region locked. 1st four series are listed as Region Free when sold separately. No information on series 5 or 6.
Complete set listed as untested on bluray.com. As always hold "ctrl" when clicking on link or it takes you to the US Amazon.

FYI when ordering from Amazon.UK.Co if you order an item from a 3rd party fulfilled by Amazon you do not get VAT removed and you are charged separate single item shipping if you order several items. In other words if they charge 3 pounds to ship one item and 4.50 pounds to ship 2 items, if one of the items is from a 3rd party fulfilled by Amazon you will be charged 6 pounds for shipping. Of course if it is from a 3rd party not fulfilled by Amazon you are charged individual shipping per item.

I think we should list whatever deal you find and then note what region it is or if region free if known. I can't imagine why anyone around here wouldn't have an all region player by this point. You can get them for as little as 50 to 75 bucks.

Plus there really isn't any place to post these type of bargains around here since the international section on DVDTalk is dead as a doornail.

I understand that sentiment since I tend to stick to region free myself...but as long as people try to research a little bit and tell us what region it is when they post it, it's not that big of a deal.

Besides, regardless of what anybody posts, I'm still going to check in a couple of other places prior to buying it on what the region code is.

in that case, I just ordered:
Predator Trilogy - $6 (Pred 1, 2 region free, #3 is Region B)
Sabotoge (Hitchock) $7 Region B
Young and Innocent (Hitchcock) $8 Region B
S&H $6 (ugh), total $27 so works out to about $9 USD per set, or $5.5 per film...

they also have tons of Masters of Cinema (all region B) for about $10 USD, far cheaper than their Criterion version

fyi. I just got my region free player...so very excited about getting MOC and other classics in Region B!

re: International Blu-ray deals

A lot of the Masters of Cinema are sold by a 3rd party so the VAT is not removed and you pay shipping on each one...sometimes it actually works out a little cheaper to order several at once with Amazon - the removal of the VAT and less in shipping works out to be comparable or better. --Peter
