Re: Your Black Friday 2011 Hauls
I ordered it on Wednesday for $8.99. Called on Friday and got denied as well. The guy was reading off a script about their prices always changing and offering the best at that time. Which pissed me off more. Best Buy lowering their prices on the digibooks cost me a few bucks on each after Amazon price matched as well. Overall I did pretty well price wise though.
Not having a Prime trial like last year made me order things just to get that free shipping and spreading out my orders. But I still don't order enough to get Prime. Plus even though they charge tax in NY the items come fairly quick with free shipping.

My local Safeway had a selection of Blu-rays including The Lord of the Rings trilogy for $10 apiece, so I grabbed those. I managed to resist buying movies at the WBshop 5 for $50 sale, but I had to pick up Medical Center Season One for 25% off.

I thought it was the one where a group of Transformers' lives are shattered after a mooning incident goes horribly wrong. Secrets, lies and a tragedy that would haunt them forever.

Thank You everyone for keeping with the updates on the price drops! I was able to get some great deals and spend probably the most money on movies I have ever spent on any single day/wknd before. My only real regret was not getting Thor & Captain America in 3D-Blu from Frys.

Re: Your Black Friday 2011 Hauls
I actually lost track of all my hauls, which may not be a good thing money wise, but sure will be fun getting to open all the gifts that come in the mail and being surprised.
Many thanks to everyone who posted during the mass consumption and for all the help in securing what Don Rickles so memorably calls in KELLY'S HEROES: "A DEAL deal!"

Re: Your Black Friday 2011 Hauls
Ugh. Ugh, ugh, ugh, I hate Best Buy.
I ordered Mad Men on BR seasons 1-4 from Best Buy during their Black Friday sale. The order went through, with all items showing in stock.
A few days later, I get an e-mail saying 3 & 4 were back ordered, but that I could call customer service to discuss my options, including cancelling the order or picking the movies up in store. Unfortunately, the items showed not available for pickup anywhere in my area.
Today, I walked into Best Buy and they had at least 15 of both season 3 and 4 on the shelves (at full price... I think $30 for one and $40 for the other). I called customer service to ask if they could arrange for me to pick up the items I was already holding in my hands. The rep gave me the most nonsensical answer I'd ever heard ("they need those copies for Black Friday"... what?). He said my only options were to cancel the order (although he was nice enough to suggest I might buy them for full price in-store if I really wanted them), or wait for the backordered ones to come in.
Ugh.
I saw Amazon had them for the same price AFTER I placed my BB order, or I would have just ordered from Amazon in the first place. What a terrible fucking store. "Hey, we'll have B&M stores and a website and pretend they're totally synchronized, except when it's convenient for us to pretend like they're completely separate entities."

Re: Your Black Friday 2011 Hauls
Still waiting on a couple discs to arrive, but the majority of my post BF/Q4 purchases have come in and I can finally take stock of what I bought, spent, saved, etc
Some personal stats from Q4 2011
While I was able to take advantage of some Killer BF deals, especially from Amazon and B&N, I was still surprised I managed to average well over 50% off in total across the board.
That $11.85 average also applies to 15 sets that had MSRPs that averaged over $50 each (!)
Each year I say I'm going to cut back, and without fail each year I end up spending more than I ever have. This year was no exception- however I think on average I did much better this year, deal-wise, than I ever have before. Also, my out of pocket costs may actually come in less than years past thanks to some good sales I made on Amazon. All in all, a very satisfying BF/Q4 here.
So how'd everyone else make out?
Some personal stats from Q4 2011
- Blu-rays: 50
- DVDs: 5
- TV Sets: 11
- M.O.D. discs: 46
- Criterions: 11
- Average MSRP: $28.32 (pre tax)
- Average price paid per title: $11.85/ $12.89 (w/tax)
- Average % off of MSRP: 58%
