Re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27
I see that nobody is talking about the John Carter 3D Blu-Ray set at Amazon coming out on Tuesday.
Usually by Thursday night Amazon has PM'd Target or BB for the upcoming week so that after the $5 preorder coupon the price works out the same (except for tax), but this time it's looking like Amazon isn't going to PM Target at $24.99 before coupon... at least not soon enough that I can keep the preorder.
Do people think I can safely wait until Friday mid-day in hopes Amazon will drop the price to $24.99 before Amazon puts this into Shipping Soon and tells me they can't cancel it, or should I cancel my preorder tonight (thereby guaranteeing they PM to $24.99 on Friday as Murphy's Law dictates)?
I'd rather use Amazon just because I'm trying to use up a bunch of credit there, but I'm not going to pay $5 more than Target for this. I wonder how many copies Target will get on Tuesday... my guess would be 4 to 10 of the 3D version. At least with Amazon you also know you aren't going to find empty shelves like you would Tuesday afternoon/evening at Target on a low popularity release (such as Studio Ghibli BDs).

Hmm, I usually don't see the price match occur until Sunday or Monday, definitely always cut it close to the shipping date. Do they usually price match Target? I know they are always good about matching Best Buy.

This might be a dumb question, but is this hard to cancel after you get the free ticket? I actually have every intention on keeping the preorder if the movie turns out good but don't want to be stuck with it if it's not.

Roger Corman's Star Crash, Battle Beyond the Stars, and Death Race 2000 are at $14.99 or lower, about as low as they've ever been. Get 'em while they're hot.

Another small price drop on Beverly Hills Cop to $9.21.
Now $8.84.
(These by-the-pennies price drops suck.)

Some questions for the Amazon experts regarding the various Disney animated Blu-Rays releasing in August which have $8 coupons on each right now:
1. Did people who preordered multiple titles do them on separate orders or all on the same order? (I assume you can still delete individual items out of an order later without losing coupons on the other items?)
2. Does anyone know how long these coupons will last? I know they usually don't last long, but do we at least have through Sunday?
3. I have promo credit (gift card) that I don't want to lock up until August. Would the best way to avoid this situation be to preorder something very expensive to use my credit, then preorder the Disneys, then cancel the expensive preorder?
4. If you later want to apply a gift card to an existing order, can you do that? I know you can't go the other way from an existing order (remove a gift card and pay by credit card), but I do see "apply gift card balance" when ordering. Is that option still there after you've ordered up until when it ships?

You can always add a gift card later to the order. I would recommend using the coupon if you're interested in buying the titles. Mostly because Amazon will likely lower their prices before release day.

So, how did you know about the price drops if they are not showing up on Amazon yet?

Re: Amazon Blu-ray Discounts and Deals Thread #27
Amazon just dropped the price of John Carter! What more do you need? I kid, sorta, Amazon has a history of dropping prices right before release date while their coupons only last about a week or two... better to jump on the coupons and then just wait to see if they drop. If they don't, no biggie, you can always cancel your order.

So, if luck doesn't go your way and it ends up shipping before Amazon has dropped the price, then you now have to go through the hassle of paying to return it (or refusing receipt which Amazon won't like if you do too often). Therefore, doing this is not risk-free but still risky.

If I didn't already own the dvd's for all 3 Beetlejuice / Charlie & Chocolate Factory / Corpse Bride, I'd be all over that for $15!

The 3D or 2D version? I just checked Amazon and both are showing the same $29.96 and $22.99 prices on their product pages. However, I do (and would) expect them to match Target (isn't BB higher than Target?) which is why I was posting earlier what was taking them so long. Hopefully the new prices will show up soon?
So, how did you know about the price drops if they are not showing up on Amazon yet?

Has anyone thought of a way to "trick" Finding Nemo or The Avengers into their Gold Box? I know someone had a good idea to pre-order Miror, Mirror to get Once Upon a Time into their Gold Box (which worked for me), but I haven't thought of anything to get these. I'm hoping to get them to show up before the coupons expire on the 7th. By the way, does anyone know when on the 7th they expire? Like right when the clock hits midnight on the 6th, or 2359 on the 7th or another time?
Oddly enough, I did get Finding Nemo in my Gold Box today, but some BD/DVD combo with Spanish packaging. I want the 3D version.
