Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Went to the local store today. The sale is on in the West Coast also. I asked if they were going to be putting out movies on T-day or on Friday. The clerk answered that they were already out. I saw very few new titles. It is possible that the clerk didn't know.
I bought: blu-ray Star Trek: The Motion Picture (original cast) $2.88 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes $2.88 Castaway $2.88 DVD Star Trek 3 film (@'s 2-4 with original cast.) $2.88 Carousel/Lilliom 2 Disc ( I am ASSUMING that this is the Fritz Lang Lilliom, that's why I bought it) $2.88 Phantom Of The Opera )Hammer version) $1.88 They had a few other good titles that I already own. While I'm not a fan of either, I did see a couple John Wayne multi film dvd's & single film blu's, & a few Southpark seasons on dvd (wish I liked South Park, $2.88 for a season is pretty great!) |
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Following up: Lilliom on DVD #2 of Carousel is the Fritz Lang 1934; imo that's a steal at $2.88 (though I'll likely never watch Carousel).

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Saw sign that said the sale is from 11/23 to 11/28 so ends on Thanksgiving Day. I guess its not a Black Friday sale.
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I read they didnt expect dvd for black friday, i guess even if some store got new stock. i checkd today and saw same stock so they waiting to stock for thurs or fri, if any at all. but wont be back to place till i check other places first.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I hit the other BL in Tacoma today. Lots of new mediocre titles. Like the other store, all had $5 & $3 price tags, but rang up at the ale prices. Clerk there also thought everything was out already, but there are pics on this thread of $2.88 & $1.88 price tags, so both clerks are probably wrong. It would be nice to know if they were going to put them out on t-day; I usually will not shop in B&M's on BF. It's a nightmare.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Went to a SoCal store in Buena Park today (Valley View and Lincoln). None rang up for the sale prices. Is this local or across the chain ?

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I am in New York and MooMooMooMoo is in Washington State so I don’t think it was just local.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I've seen the Mae West & bought the Star Trek here in the current pre BF batch.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I called them today. Was told there will be new titles out on Friday. I am NOT getting up at 6 am to find out though...........

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Hit 2 today. It was somewhat late in the day, but they didn't appear to be picked out. Worst BF titles I've ever seen at BL. The only title I would have bought if I didn't already have it was Vicky Christina Barcelona on dvd. One of the stores had nothing with the $1.88 & $2.88 price tags, though they were stuffed with new crummy titles. (I also asked to make sure I didn't miss anything).

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
New stuff at my local store today:
Invisible Man & Dracula Legacy sets for $10 each. Also 2 different looking Scarface steelbooks for $10. Both were limited editions, but different artwork. And if you're ok with DVDs, the Bourne classified set for $10 and the Hitchcock Ultimate set for $20. |

And I'll try and hunt for a Scarface steelbook. Thanks! |

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
The local BL has not gotten any Uni horror. They said the earliest they might get another batch would be next Monday, to be put out on Tuesday. Cross my fingers, but all their racks are stuffed with garbage titles, so I'm not holding my breath.........

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
My BL had everything that was mentioned. Ended up getting the Invisible Man Collection and a Scarface steelbook. Like Cardsfan said, they had 2 Scarface covers to choose from. I like the Pop Art cover more, but I'm a sucker for Art cards and went with the red LE copy.
Almost squeezed the trigger on the Kirk Douglas collection (Mostly for Spartacus) and it was very odd to see the Hitchcock Collection in a Blu-Ray sized box, but it has "DVD" written all over it. |
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Went to a different store today. Several of the Bourne classified sets on BD this time, for $10. Also the Fast & Furious set (7 films) for $10.
A few of the Universal legacy sets again on BD, along with a couple on regular DVD too. |
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I'm curious what part(s) of the USA this new batch is showing up in? I'm in Tacoma, WA (near Seattle)
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Both stores I mentioned were in the Midwest (Indiana).
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I checked Wednesday night at the store here (NE AR). Nothing new yet. Maybe next week. There are a few things I'd pick up - mainly that Hitchcock DVD set (not too concerned to get them on BR as I'm just not huge fan but *would* like to own copies to watch those films I've never seen).
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
The store I visited had no Universal Legacy sets. I saw Bad Santa 2 and the Blacklist S.2 in the waterfall display, which was overstuffed with various older 3D releases and TMNT movies.
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Picked up 'The Bride of Frankenstein' blu ray with Glow in the Dark Art.

BTW, even though it was mentioned in a different thread, The BR Universal Sets at my store have slips while the DVDs don't. Dracula was the only BD set I saw though.

Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Hit the local BL today (the day a clerk suggested); a few new titles but nothing that's been mentioned here that I want. I was told this time to try again on Thursday. I think the clerks at this store aren't real um......... knowledgeable. I also don't have a relationship with the store manager (I mean business type!) like I've had with several of the stores in the past.
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I got a 5 off $15 so hit both of the remaining BL's in Tacoma. Neither has any of the Uni horror, the Douglas or Hitchcock boxes. Pearl Street (which I don't get to often as it's about 15 miles away) had about 3/4 of a 4 sided rack (1 entire side was nothing but kids dvd's) & 50% of the BF rack remaining. They had a lot of TV series that I've never heard of on dvd at $5 per season; they also still have significant stock on South Park. Didn't get to talk with any employees there. Only thing of interest was a special packaging DVD edition of DeMille's Cleopatra. I already have the standard version in a box set. Very few blu's.
The second store by me was full; 95% same old same old. Found out I know one of the senior employees from when my business used to buy a ton from them. She told me they were still loaded up with more boxes of movies in the back & it's all duplications of what's already out. She hadn't heard of the $10 box sets; but said they actually get truck 3 times weekly. She really doubted that the boxes would be in & out for sale before my 4 day coupon expires Sunday. Lots of blu's, but same titles they've had since mid November. |
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Found a PG-13 flick called 'Wish Upon' for $2.88...must be some BF leftovers. No sign of any of the Universal Monsters titles
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Was in my local Big Lots today and hadn't planned to spend too much time looking over the media, but even at a glance I could tell there were some additional new titles added. Each of these were $5:
The Clint Eastwood 4 Movie Thriller Collection (Coogan's Bluff / The Beguiled / Play Misty for Me / The Eiger Sanction) A single copy of The Bride of Frankenstein (mentioned above, but I hadn't seen it yet) The Riddick Collection (Pitch Black / The Chronicles of Riddick, along with a DVD of The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury according to the back). |
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Had reason to stop by the local store again yesterday (1 day later) and there were new things again. Or in some cases, titles that had been present before and reappeared.
I saw multiple copies of the Planet of the Apes collection and the Star Trek trilogy for $5. I also noticed Animal House, The Invisible Man & The Mummy. The latter 2 with the glow-in-the-dark slipcovers. All of these were $5. |
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
In my recent travels, I was fortunate to pick up the Scarface, Bourne Classified & MI:Ghost Protocol steelbooks in a unlocal Big Lots & had spotted a lot of reported BD's / DVD titles there.
In my semi monthly visit to the local BL this morning, I spotted new stock; beaucoup titles of South Park DVD seasons and BF DVD sales titles. No new BD's from what I seen. This store is truly behind the eight ball in receiving and/or putting out new BD stock! |
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Last i hit my place was around black friday, and now i gotta debate how far i wanna walk for any cheap dvd or br combo by chance since just snaged some dvd at thrift other day. it all debatable since already got so many i have and have not watched yet lol. i just gotta be in mood to watch any at time lol. with holidays coming, maybe they be on sale by chance to get rid of old stock and by chance catch some new stock out any.
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
My store keeps putting out new stuff. And the odd thing--they aren't selling much. The new titles are jammed in to the display and can even make it hard to see what's there. Today's find was a bunch of TV shows for $5. I bought the 2nd season of Bates Motel on DVD with a $5 coupon in hand. I've seen the 1st season and can attest to that show's quality. I've never heard of most of the others I found on DVD and BD. If you have an opinion on anything, let me know so I can target which ones I might pick up with future coupons.:)
FWIW, there was a single copy of each BD title, 1 or 2 of each DVD series. Continuum: Season 1 Continuum: Season 2 (BD) Continuum: Season 3 Dig: Season 1 (BD) Dominion: Season 1 Dominion: Season 2 Dracula: Season 1 (Jonathan Rhys Meyers series) Master of None: Season 1 Mr. Selfridge: Masterpiece? (BD) Mr. Selfridge: Season 2 (PBS) Van Helsing: Season 1 |
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
I went to a local Big Lots a few nights ago and they definitely had a lot of the DVD Seasons that you listed.
|
Re: Big Lots Blu-rays
Out of what Cardsfan listed, Dominion: Season 1 and Dracula: Season 1 (Jonathan Rhys Meyers series) are pretty good seasons of television. Dracula only got canceled because the main star was having serious drug issues while filming and they couldn't afford insuring him.
