Unless you're just after some cover art, or really are fanatical about the film, you may want to hold off if you have the previous release...

Tempted at first to pick this up since it's a 4-disc set (including DVD) but after reading about the subpar transfer (no different than the previous release), I'm going to hold off until they remaster this thing.

The biggest difference is the DVD, which has a ton of special features which aren't on the previous 2 disk blu ray release

Re: Donnie Darko Anniversary $6.99 - Best Buy

Got it for $6.99 last week. Then I saw here that bsome got it for $1.99 with upgrade and save this week eveggg jnnaq though it was the 1-discer that was in the promo. They wouldn't let me have it for thatb price, but $6.99 after coupon. So, I promptly returned it once I realized and they paid me back $9.99 and $3 cash for the coupon. So $6.99 plus $6.99 is $13.98 and I got $9.99 plus $3 back. In other words pretty much free

Actually they should have refunded you only 9.99 (the price before coupon).

I got the original release for -3.00. I bought 6 trade-ins and somehow they forgot to ring up DD, but they did put in the manu. coupon.

They should have and then given me $3 cash. That is how BBY deals with it in my state normally, but I had someone who didn't quite know what they were doing. Target gives you the full price before coupon back.

I own this on BD and DVD (both the Director's Cut version) and can say that this is one of the few cases that there is no improvement going from DVD to BD.

So there's that if anyone was on the fence.

Thanks. I heard that the transfer was bad and being someone on a tight budget sticking to titles where there is significant improvement in video before I upgrade, I'm glad I stayed away from this one.

Other noted titles I decided to stay away from based on mediocre transfers are:
Die Hard 1,2,3
Big
Top Gun (including 25th anniv. edition)
Highlander 1, 2
Terminator

Studios really have to do a better job with their blu releases. Granted some of the movies are old and need significant work in remastering them, people shouldn't believe that everything they're buying on blu-ray is significantly better than what they already own on DVD. But for those getting this from BestBuy who are lucky enough to get the $5 off Upgrade2Save and the $3 coupon, you're getting it for practically nothing so only then would it be worth getting.

Got it for $9.99 -3 plus had them manually apply the "upgrade and save $5" promotion. Definately worth $2.41.

If I'm reading the reviews correctly the third disc is just the original DVD so if you have that already, getting the 2-disc version for $5 w/trade covers everything but the superfluous digital copy. Correct?

^ That's how I understand it, yes. If you own the previous DVD and BD, then you already have everything, unless you want the digital copy.

Re: Donnie Darko Anniversary Edition $6.99 - Best Buy

I picked up the 2-disc BD this afternoon. I initially tried the 4-disc which is also on sale for $10 but not eligible for the upgrade deal and the register wouldn't accept it and when the manager tried to override she went and found a copy of the 2-disc set. I already have the old DVD, so I'm set. Thanks.
