It's a whole host of factors, but the lack of good loss-leaders on media in the weekly ads does have something to do with Amazon's practice of matching them. Read some of the Internet deal sites like SlickDeals or Fatwallet for why Best Buy and Target stopped advertising media items as much as they did five years.

My guess is that the dearth of deals in the Target sale ads has more to do with it being summer than Amazon price-matching. I've noticed, over the years, that interest in DVDs/BDs plummets in late spring/early summer and then recovers in late August and September and peaks in the fall. That's about the time that college kids head back to school, perhaps not coincidentally. I've learned to pull my Amazon Marketplace and Half.com listings for the summer because it isn't worth the trouble to monitor them (and I'm busy that time of the year like many others are).
