Barnes and Noble 50% Off Criterion Sale 7/12

This was mentioned in the ongoing B&N thread in the DVD Bargains section (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-bargain...-part-2-a.html) and I confirmed it at the store yesterday. This sale may run concurrently with the B2G1 sale for 1 day so be on the lookout come 7/12 and check the ongoing B&N thread for coupons and other chatter.

Cool. I'll probably pick up Bottle Rocket and The Darjeeling Limited.

Re: Barnes and Noble 50% Off Criterion Sale 7/12

I've got lots of titles that I have been wanting to pick up and have been holding some cash back for a while just for this sale. So obviously I'm ready for it! I just wish that Amazon would price match some of these because I have a lot of credit there. I don't think they have price matched the last few sales. Regardless, I know I'll be buying my share.

That's still a big question mark. The b2g1 sale is supposed to officially end Monday online. The official end time was listed as 7/12 at 2:59 AM Eastern time. The Criterion sale could go live as early as Monday (7/11) afternoon, while the b2g1 is winding down. It's possible both sales could overlap several hours online. Frequently from past b2g1 sales there have been brief overlaps of other sales ending or beginning with it, resulting in some great deals for a short period of time. However don't get too excited yet since it's possible B&N could decide to end the b2g1 sale earlier with Criterion titles to prevent both sales from combining during the transition time.

I think the real strategy will be to get coupons in before they shut it down with criterion titles. I don't think theres much chance of the two sales working on criterion titles.

The last Criterion sale coupons were immediately prevented from working as soon as it began. There still might be one remaining loophole to exploit. Ship to home orders at a store. If it starts early enough online it might be possible to place a few b2g1 orders at a store. I just called a local store and the person I spoke with said the b2g1 sale is also ending Monday at stores.

Re: Barnes and Noble 50% Off Criterion Sale 7/12

Nice. I've got a relatively small shopping list this time around:

Diabolique
High and Low
Kiss Me Deadly
Leon Morin, Priest
The Music Room
Videodrome

Hopefully the sale will last through 7/26, so that Leon Morin and High and Low are included.

Army of Shadows
Le Cercle Rouge
High and Low

Mulling the possibility of getting the Monterey Pop box.

I want Beauty and the Beast. It comes out in a couple weeks, hopefully before the sale ends.

Re: Barnes and Noble 50% Off Criterion Sale 7/12

I can't believe it: I don't think I'm getting anything this time 'round. I did "ship to home" on a few pre-orders when the 50% off coupons were out a while back:

Le Cercle Rouge
Pale Flower
Something Wild
Blow Out

Can't see anything out since then I want......

Are you sure? I managed to use a coupon on almost every single Criterion I picked up. I bought either 14 or 15 during that last sale.

$40-50%=$20-10%=$18-$8=$10. $3 better than last year. :

I've got my checklist together with my eye on getting about 20 BD's and a few Eclipse sets as well as one or two DVD's. I've already scoped out the stores that have the most of what I want. I just hope I don't have to explain these coupons to every cashier and why they work on the $40 titles.

The selling price for the $40 Criterions is actually $39.99. The $8 coupon will not be applicable.

Exactly. Let's hope there are a few 15 or 20% coupons active during the sale so we can save something. And there's always the $5 off $50 purchase coupon.

Re: Barnes and Noble 50% Off Criterion Sale 7/12

As a veteran of past sales, but a new B&N member, I just want to confirm that there should be no strange exceptions to getting the 10% member discount, correct?

I am, in particular, wondering about reserving movies online for in store pickup. If I do that, will it count as an online order and thus be ineligible for the 10% off?

Re: Barnes and Noble 50% Off Criterion Sale 7/12

$8 Off One DVD or Blu-ray: $8 off one (1) DVD or Blu-ray with a minimum B&N Selling Price of $40. The B&N Selling Price is the price at Checkout before taxes and shipping and handling charges are applied. The $8 off discount will apply to the most expensive eligible DVD or Blu-ray in your Shopping Cart and will be deducted after all other discounts are applied. The $8 off discount will appear at Checkout.
I'm not sure we won't be able to get away with using an $8 coupon with the $39.99 price-point. It was always YMMV in the past on the $5 coupons at $19.99 with much success! Time will tell.

Negative. When you reserve an item for in store pick-up, they will hold it for up to 3 days and you pay for it at the store. You will receive the 10% member discount and will also be able to redeem any applicable coupon.

That's because they were scanning at $20 with the 50% sale before the member discount. Also there was gray area in the fine print to interpret selling price as the list price. You could often even use the $5 DVD coupons on $29.99 list titles.

Re: Barnes and Noble 50% Off Criterion Sale 7/12

I remember using a couple of 50% off coupons this year and the Criterions rang up as $35.99 prior to discount. Does anyone think this has any chance of happening or will they revert to the $40 msrp prior to 50% off. It would be nice to get Criterions at $18 and stack on a 20% off coupon +10% membership discount. That would make the price close to the $13 price point that we got with the now dead $5 coupon.
