Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

I went to 2 differents and both were having the sale even though there were no signs. I just asked before I started looking. Both stores had different set ups. The 1st store the blus were on the shelves and easy to look threw. The 2nd store had all the blus dumped in plastic binds and if there would of been people there I wouldn't of bothered looking. The set up was ridiculous but glad I looked threw at 7 binds. Here what I got:
Adventureland (priced at 12.99 but rang up at 9.99)
Up in the Air
Yes Man
Youth in Revolt
Love Ranch (Never heard of it and couldnt find anything else)
Repomen
Letters to Juliet
Mean Girls (Only Copy)
The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3 (Both stores had these at 2 different prices either 12.99 or 9.99)
The Informers
The Visitor
Clerks 2
Halloween (Rob Zombie)
Get Smart
Zombieland
The Proposal
The Wackness
500 Days of Summer (Rental version with no extras probably will take back)
Land of the Lost
Death at a Funeral
Surrogates
Saw 6
Incendiary
The Karate Kid
Couples Retreat

The 2nd store had more than the 1st. I saw several movies but only 1 copy. Passed on Zodiac, Led Zeppelin, Grown Ups, and Band of Brothers. I already had those and they lots of others but being dumped in the bind I was in hurry to make sure I got everthing I wanted before anybody came in. Hopefully I can find some other stores.

Updated the list. Added about 100 titles.

If anyone wants to help out, you could put the titles you bought that aren't already on the list in bold. That would really make things easier for me, as the list is getting pretty long now. Thanks

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Clerk said I was the first one to come in today for the sale. I picked up:

RED CLIFF Part 1 & 2 (don't know anything about this film, but figured it would be a good epic for Blu, though probably too CGI heavy for my tastes. Is it any good?).

PONYO (only copy there)

QUANTUM OF SOLACE

GODS AND GENERALS (only copy there)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the OP, I didn't see these on your master list, but they were in the store today:

BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHT

SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES

WATCHMEN: DIRECTOR'S CUT

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Had no problems with anyone in the store about the sale. Everyone knew about it and was helpful in telling me about it had I not known. The stuff rang up just fine too. Good experience overall.

I picked up:
Drag Me To Hell
Eyes Wide Shut
Land Of The Dead
Star Trek
Zombieland

I thought about Red Cliff but I have so many other kung-fu type movies to watch and I couldn't decide what to put back.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Picked up 15 myself

P.S. I Love You
Zombieland
The Ugly Truth
Paranormal Activity
The Proposal
The Time Traveler's Wife
Shutter Island
Up In The Air
The Boondock Saints 2
Scott Pilgrim VS The World
Halloween 2
She's Out Of My League
The Wolfman
Adventureland
Drag Me To Hell

Had to pick up some of those for my wife or she would have killed me as soon as I walked in the door buying that much. Still, $60 for 15 Blus is a pretty damn good deal.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Picked up:

The Runaways
Eyes Wide Shut
Into the Wild
Shutter Island
Taken
Nine
Transformer 2
Surrogates
500 Days of Summer
Girl Who Played With Fire

Some of the titles other have been getting (Red Cliff, Star Trek, Up In The Air) were still marked at $12.99 at my local store. I should have checked to see if they would ring up cheaper...

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

I grabbed Red Cliff Part II, Zombieland, Green Zone, Bad Lieut (Nic Cage), and This Is It for $21.xx

Unfortunately, my blockbuster didn't have Red Cliff Part I and some other titles I would've liked such as Youth in Revolt or A Single Man were $12.99...didn't think to ask if they'd scan cheaper either.

So, if anyone wants to trade Red Cliff Part I for any of the titles I got except Red Cliff Part II, let me know.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

FYI if a movie is priced more than 9.99 have the clerks check the price. The 1st store I went to the employee told me that alot of the titles werent priced right.

I'm not saying you did this but I almost did so a general warning to all that just skim the spines - check the Red Cliff blus carefully because they have the same spine and the covers are exactly the same except for the Part I and Part II notations under the title.

Good tip, but I'm a flipper not a spine checker lol

Either way I got the lone Red Cliff (either part) they had, but that's a good tip for the blockbuster hunter.

If anyone finds DR. NO and wants to trade for either of the RED CLIFF parts or some of the other titles mentioned, send me a PM. A long shot, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Stopped at the neighborhood store tonight and picked up 5 without issue:

Eyes Wide Shut
Inglorious Basterds
Deliverance
Memoirs of a Geisha
The Hurt Locker

There was also an employee behind the counter with stacks of product getting tagged that haven't even made it out to the shelf yet.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Went to the local Blockbuster, which is in a dinky little town that didn't even carry Blu-rays the last time I checked, and they're absolutely LOADED with stuff for sale. The girl working there said that I could only get in on the sale today if I bought some candy, soda or popcorn, which was obviously a load of crap, but since she was nice I bought some pretzel M&Ms for my wife. Picked up:

(500) Days of Summer
Green Zone
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
The Informant!
The Men Who Stare at Goats
Red Cliff I
Red Cliff II
The Road
The Wrestler
Zodiac

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Titles spotted today that are not on the master list:

2001
Atonement
The Last Station
The Simpsons Movie
Marley and Me
The Day the Earth Stood Still '08
(unlike the retail release, this does NOT include the 1951 original)

Some of the prices seem to be YMMV--The Expendables was labeled as $9.99 at one store.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Went on a bike ride after work, knowing that I would catch the second location nearest my humble abode...found most of the rest of what I was looking for, so I'm happy.

Adventureland
Zombieland
The Crazies
Shutter Island
Paranormal Activity
Repo Men
Leaves of Grass

Picked the rest of these, just on a lark...heard varying things, but wanted the ones above for sure, and had the rest of what's on the list that I liked, and at $4 each, I figured at worst, they'd make decent trade fodder.

The Fall
17 Again
She's Out of My League

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Didn't see 5 I wanted so I got some fillers

Shutter Island
The Wolfman
Inglorious Basterds
Beetlejuice
Taken

Bolded ones were the ones I really wanted, other 2 were fillers

They also said they were told to pull a ton of movies ( a little of everything) to replenish stock on friday so if they don't have what you are looking for ask them to look in the system and if it says they have a few and it's not on the shelf ask them to check the back stock they pulled, that's how I got my Shutter Island.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

I went to one BB tonight and the selection was excellent. I've decided I don't need to buy a BD just because it's cheap so I bought 5 highly regarded films (all mentioned already) and put 10 back. The manager told me to check later in the sale becasue they will probably add more later depending on how well the sale goes.

Here are a few titles I remember seeing that are not on the list:

Young Victoria
Ghost Town (kind of wish I had bought this one)
Wyatt Earp
The Soloist
Glory Road
The Guardian

From the posts here, I gather these blu-rays only come in rental cases? Is the artwork DVD size or can it be transfered to a regular blu-ray case?

Sorry for being clueless, but I don't think I've stepped foot in a Blockbuster since they started selling used blus.

Yes, they come in rental cases. But they have the original artwork slipped under the plastic and on top of the BB blue paper sleeve so it's easy to move the original art to a new case.

For many the cases are full size DVD cases with the Blu Cover in it. If you want it in a Blu-Ray case, you have to provide your own.

It comes with the regular blu ray art work, but in a regular size dvd rental case.

Edit: guss all three of us were replying at the same time

But yeah, I'm wondering the same thing as a few posts back. Were is the best place to buy blu ray cases in 5-10 packs?
