But what really got my attention was the pre-viewed Blu-ray "Casablanca" on sale for $57.99! Not just one of them, but two at the same price.
When I asked the clerk, she said that the computer tells her what the prices should be. And then she added "I don't think those discs are included in the sale".

Picked up:
The Brothers Bloom
Kick Ass
The American
Zombieland
Predator (1st blu ray edition )
I couldn't find a 5th title so I ventured into their blu ray rental section. When I noticed 5 copies of Predator, I wondered if they would sell it to me and use for the sale. I asked the manager and she yes, so I was happy. Predator looks beautiful on my 42 LCD HDTV and that's with the grain. I'm glad I got this copy and not the "hunter edition".

That if you have a newer player it won't play, but if you have a slightly older player it will play. I heard you either need a thumb drive or something else to make it work. All it does for me is play the movie, but its like a 4 inch block, while the rest of the screen is black. I had bought the Crank/Crank 2 blu ray double pack and thought maybe it was just the disc, but its i don't know.

Didn't find anything at my local BB for the 5 for $20.
I did buy Salt for $9.99 there which made me happy
Been waiting for a price drop on that since I wasn't able to score it for $5 during the last Blockbuster BD sale.

This has been reported before and I even started an individual thread about it last winter when I encountered the same title at that price during a close out sale at BB. They are obviously mixing up the individual Blu Ray with the Deluxe Box Set that WB released for CASABLANCA. When I pointed this out to them they said the computer could not be wrong and that the price was accurate. In justifying same, I was actually told straight faced by the clerk: "Sir, this is CASABLANCA."

How sad that Legends of the Guardians and The Town are both rental copies missing the extras. Otherwise I would've gotten them. I managed to find 5 non-rental copies of things I wanted. There were a couple old ones I had missed, plus Dinner for Schmucks and Nanny McPhee Returns. I don't know if The Contract was a new markdown or just one I hadn't seen in stock before. Nobody had Book of Eli or Santa Buddies in my area which I would've liked to get. I couldn't bring myself to buy that Imax underwater one because it's only 41 minutes long. Other than those titles, it was the same-old same-old stuff.
I hope if there are any new markdowns before this sale ends on 9/12 that someone will post those here. This is a thread that needs a Wiki page (if DVD Talk supports that) to list new markdowns by date. For now I'll assume there aren't any more new markdowns worth having and won't go to any more Blockbusters unless I'm already driving by them (which would be unlikely as they are all out of my normal driving path).

I picked up TOY STORY 3, but not a single extra on it. I'm not real fond of extras for modern movies, too much self-glorification, so I was cool with it for four bucks. Am I missing anything really great on the extras for that title?

Yeah, for alot of animated movies I really don't care about features, why I picked up Toy Story 3 and Legends of the Guardians for 4 bucks a piece.

At first I tried to avoid the rental exclusives, but now I don’t really care. Yeah, it sucks to be missing some of the extras, but I want the movie and I want it in hi def and I’m willing to make some sacrifices to buy a $4 movie rather to spend $10-$15 and buy new. Now when they start dropping the HD audio on the renal exclusives (like Red) or the extended editions (The Town, Hot Tub Time Machine, Hall Pass, Sucker Punch, etc), that is when I refuse to buy.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)
The reason (besides OCD) I don't like missing the extras is even though $4 is not a bad price for a used BD (which are generally in good condition compared to a used DVD) I know that inevitably the normal BD with the full features will be $7-$10 brand new within 1-2 years from Amazon, Walmart on BF, or somewhere else, and it's easy for me to pass on stuff since my backlog of movies to watch is so big. I always ask myself a question: "do you feel lucky, punk"... I mean "do I really want to watch this right away or will it just go in my backlog and maybe I should wait"?
If I buy a Rental version really depends on the extras I'm missing. For example, Splice only had 1 short featurette I was told was so-so, so I figured I could live without that. I haven't seen The Town but heard it was a good movie and it has commentaries and some featurettes I think I'd like, so I'll wait for the normal BD. I also passed on Legends of the Guardians and Saw The Final Chapter because of missing a lot of extras.
It was very tricky on Saw The Final Chapter because it doesn't say Rental anywhere on the package. You just see there are no special features, and knowing Lionsgate usually puts special features I said it's a stealth rental copy and I'll wait. I looked it up online and sure enough it was missing special features. So we can't just look for the warning words "Rental", "Rental Exclusive", or "Blockbuster Exclusive" any more.
As usual, I found 4 more titles I wanted but struggled to find a 5th. I still got tricked in spite of being careful to avoid rental copies missing extras. As it turns out The Last Airbender comes in 1 and 2 BD editions which I didn't know, so I'm missing the 2nd BD of extras. :-(
When struggling to find a 5th title, it's funny how some titles I've seen marked as $9.99 and passed on in months past (such as 127 Hours) ring up at a higher price at some stores, just as Salt is $9.99 for some people and higher elsewhere. Their pricing isn't quite uniform.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)
Funny that you mention SAW the final chapter. Now this has nothing to do with blockbuster, but the local video store that I go too. They had Saw the final chapter on dvd and i bought it. It said it had features on the back of the cover and took it home and there was no features. So I took it back and got the blu ray of the film instead and it had the features. Alot of the time, the store will get the blu ray combo packs and use them to rent out for both. Meaning they print out copies most of the time for the dvd cover and the dvd that comes with the case is the one that comes with the combo pack.
I told them, i was like it said there was features, but there wasn't anythere. And they just said i don't know, i just put the movies out as told.

I just can't get into extras for movies from the past 20 years. The cast and crew are way too full of themselves and talk about their work like they are curing cancer. For older movies that have critical, historical and theoretical extras, those I can handle and wouldn't sacrifice them for a cheap price.
I enjoyed THE TOWN just fine, but listening to Ben Affleck talk about how he achieved a certain camera angle or lighting effect as if he had just walked on water, who gives a fuck?

I was surprised to find 7 blu rays I wanted (and didn't already buy) on the little table. I chose
Devil
Halloween 2 (I hear the unrated cut is quite good)
Catfish
Precious
Dinner For Schmucks
for those of you who bought a rental how did it work? I asked about it and he said I'd pay the initial rental fee of 99c, then another 10 days worth at the same price, and own it at $11. Is this how it usually works?

What a load of elitist horse manure! Have you ever seen the LOTR EE Appendices? Those were for only year-old movies; did they act all full of themselves?
When I used to review DVDs, I HAD TO listen to commentaries and watch the extras, and while some were filled with fluffy EPK nothingness in which everyone was thrilled to work with such talented people and blah-blah-woof-woof, others were fascinating or enlightening to a filmmaking aficionado such as myself.
The commentary for Die Hard pointed out how triangles were used in shot composition and how movement in one direction or another had different meanings. If you've seen the Maximum Movie Modes on Watchmen or Sucker Punch (or McG's talk on Terminator Salvation), they're not claiming to walk on water, but reveal how and why their movies were made. Robert Rodriguez's extras are usually superlative.
I can understand people who don't care about how their movies were made not wanting to pay extra for extras, but to crap on supplemental material in this manner is just ignorant and baseless.
