Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

I finally scored something at Blockbuster worth buying. None of our local stores have had any Blu's for 5 for $20. We do have one store closing and I scored a brand new, Watchmen Ultimate Cut Blu-ray set for $24.

I'm not driving 50 miles for the closest Blockbuster again! No deal is worth that for me.

If the 5 for 20 deal does start up tomorrow. I might have to get up a bit extra to make a special trip to them in the morning.

It has been reported by many on bluray.com that the 4th of July sale will be DVDs only (YMMV, I suppose)

Just got back from mine, was told the same thing: "5 for $20 Blu-ray sale starts Friday".

Yup, no go at my local. Was actually told it would start next Tuesday. Sucks, since I had LOTR 1-3, and Girl 1-2 in my hands.

I spoke to the manager that informed me of the sale and she said it's definitely blu-ray and dvd. She's reading it directly from an internal memo, so it should be official. She's the same person that informed me of the last sale and even about the early start date. I even called two different stores in the area and they both told me the same thing.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

I'll call my "nearest" Blockbuster store on Friday morning to see what's happening there. I hope that veterans of the last 5 for $20 sale can post here what titles they see this time that are NEW relative to the previous sale.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

I also was at my nearest blockbuster and was told the same thing. That it doesn't start to Friday. But they were kindly enough to allow me to pick out my selections and put them behind the counter until it starts on Friday.

I even mentioned the thing about the early start date and that I read it online and they said they didn't know anything of it, nor did they have the codes to scan to make the sale. No biggie though, I got my movies picked out and just need to wait until Friday. But the guy said if it starts any sooner that they would give me a call to let me know of it then.

This is just the "5 for $20" deal this weekend, right? We haven't heard anything about the $0.99 blu-rays like last time, have we?

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

Is there a reason why they don't have some popular titles set for PPV - even at higher prices? I'm thinking of Inception and Kick Ass as two examples. I haven't seen those two at all as PPV.

Popular movies sell faster than unpopular movies. Both of those titles have been available, so I'm just assuming they sold out at your store. The store nearest me has around 10 copies of Inception.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

strange, I just checked my local BBV, which had both the 5/20 and 99c blu ray sale, and they sounded certain there is no blu ray sale this friday, or any time soon.

I did manage to find 9 decent 99c DVDs though, so Im glad I stopped by.

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

stopped by BB on my way to workout and the manager was adamant there would be no sale, but BB doesn't seem to notify their mgrs until right before the sale.. Did manage to pick up some older DVDs for .99 and a pack of True Blood buttons for .19 (don't ask me what I 'll do with those).

They'll be having it at mine for sure and I saw 1 movie there not on your list that I will be getting.

Robin Hood (Director's cut, Russell Crowe version)

Figure to pick up for sure the following, just need to figure out 1 more at least at this store.

Hot Tub Time Machine
Clash of the Titans (original)
The Losers

Anyone know if Hot Tub Time Machine has features or is it a rental exclusive?

Re: Blockbuster 5 for $20 Sale (Previously Viewed)

FYI - I saw that Kick Ass was repriced at 9.99, so it'll qualify for the 5 for 20 sale.
