It's obvious what they mean. But by all means, let's get this pulled early!
There is no excuse in 2011 for "you know what I mean" fine print.

So, new week and probably some new sale prices. Could someone please be so kind to list which movies would be $4.99 and $9.99 after coupon this week? Just trying to save myself a 40 mile round trip in case there was nothing of interest. Much appreciated.

A promotional disc is manufactured and not adult, and as long as it has its original packaging, then it has indeed met the criteria of the promotion as described. If Best Buy wants to reject promotional discs, then Best Buy needs to have a "No promos" stipulation.

It's not our responsibility to write their fine print.

The policy also doesn't state that I can't take a shit on my excellent-condition manufactured discs, and ever so delicately, put rainbow cupcake sprinkles on top, and then hand them over to a BB employee.

Maybe we should add that disclaimer too? No RAINBOW CUPCAKE SPRINKLES or HUMAN SHIT on movies?

Re: Trade and Save at Best Buy

Just as my posts about BB may be predictable, so are the responses from other people (such as GizmoDVD and dino88). Yet I post these knowing this will happen in part because what's a BB discussion without a little "I hate BB" thrown in by everyone's favorite whiner, yours truly? If my BB gave me the same deals that most people on DVD Talk post about getting, I'd probably be a BB fanboy.

If other people in this forum hadn't posted they were successful trading in promo discs to BB, I wouldn't have even thought of trying that. It's interesting that nobody attacked them for doing so, but because I tried it I'm attacked, or maybe it's because I'm anti-BB that incurs the wrath. If I'm the quintessential sh**ty customer as dino88 said, then it's only fitting because BB in my opinion is the quintessential sh**ty store. I don't buy much there, and only go there when I'm already at the mall killing time nearby.

I bet you think I'm evil because every once in a while when BB has game strategy guides on clearance for a penny (that they should've thrown away), I dare to go in there and actually buy them! Like in Time Bandits... it's Manzana... it's PURE evil. Don't touch it. What I should've done is picked them off the shelf, handed the guides over to customer service to make sure nobody else could get the deal, like I'm sure most other DVD Talkers or Slickdealers would do. :-)

Nope! Well, Office Space is on sale for $7.99 at bestbuy.com, but it won't ring up at that price in-store, since the titles in this promotion have a different UPC stickered onto them.

Intention is not specified in the fine print. And really, how do you really know what their intention is? I understand what you are getting at, but how frustrating it is to see other BB's be reasonable and his BB be complete hardnosed assholes.

The promo discs are a big gray area for me. I can see BB's point, but also yours. The promo discs were never meant for sale, but really that's kinda a moot point. I traded in PD discs with no problems, but Mananza's BB probably would have rejected those too.

I asked where it says that and showed them the wording in the promo. The employee said what would we do with promo discs? I said I don't know, but it doesn't say movies only and lots of other people on the Internet have reported success doing it at their BB stores. The answer was: well, not at this store. I asked the employee to check with a manager to make sure, the employee disappeared for a few minutes, came back and said the manager said no. Who knows if the employee really checked or not, but once again I realized I was going to lose this fight with BB as I do most of the time.

I would have had the employee call the manager and tell me to my face. Sometimes when you do that, they will concede. When I was trying to PM BB's website for Dawson's Creek, the CSR told me no. I made them get me the manager who finally gave in, but not without a fight.

The one thing I haven't heard Mananza do is fight BB. If they reject something that is clearly not following ads or policy, I would call corporate in front of them and force them to comply. I did this at Circuit City many years ago when they were making all kinds of excuses not to PM. I called their hotline and they were forced to comply to their policies. It was pretty gratifying.

Exactly. Common sense dictates no promo DVDs.

I need to work your post into my signature.

Your common sense or Best Buy's. You are ASSUMING you understand exactly what Best Buy intended. You simply don't know. The fact that some managers took the promos could indicate (but not necessarily) that promos are OK. You may indeed be correct in you ASSUMPTION, but THE FACT IS ... YOU DON'T KNOW.

Do they take PPV copies from Blockbuster or Hollywood with stickers on the cases? I guess I could scrounge up some clean cases, if necessary, but it'd be easier to just dump 'em as is.

Oh, he means previously viewed or rental copies. I think he meant to write PV or maybe PPV is another acronym meaning the same thing (previously played video??).

I figured that's what it was referring to. I just don't get where the extra P comes from.
PPV to me means Pay-Per-View.

PPV = Used video rental copies.

I've always seen previously-viewed as "PPV", or I've thought so. Sorry to confuse anyone.

Think you might be confusing these two things:

PVV = Previously Viewed Video
PPV = Pay-Per-View (Programming)

:)

I know PPV is pay-per-view, but I don't think I've ever seen PVV used. Then again, it doesn't help that I never learned to read or write. I could be totally wrong about everything. Or nothing. Wait, what?

I tweeted @BestBuy to ask, "What will become of the DVDs collected during the Trade and Save promotion?" I received the following reply:

they will be repaired, re-purposed, or recycled http://bbyurl.us/RecycleFAQ
I'd love to know how a promo or non-R1 DVD could not be repaired, re-purposed or recycled.

Did you have to get a PM for Quick & the Dead, or is it $5.99 in-store now?

I'd like to know how a DVD can be "re-purposed." Are they going to use them as coasters or frisbees? AFAIK, DVD's only have one purpose.

Has anyone tried to pick up Men in Black this week? I went in today and the new sale price is $14.99. I left it with the cashier.

I just picked it up tonight. Though it scanned at $14.99, it was still listed as one of the $9.99 titles on the Trade and Save display cube near the front of the store. She simply just walked over to confirm, and did a price override.
