I just bought it at Target. Watched it tonight. I liked it.
When Willis "steps" out of the cop car and shoots at Urban I shrieked with glee. That was cool!

I was successful in getting this from Wal-Mart today -- just pointed out that even though the picture in the Target ad was for a DVD, it still said "Special Edition" and the price was $13 for the DVD & BD. The cashier just had to get a manager to override. Manager took a look at the ad and said, "Ok!"

That's good. It all depends on the employee, and happily I had success too. I had to forego the extras that some people were able to get PM'ing at BB (BD), but decided it was worth sacrificing the comic book, DVD copy, and movie cash for a more pleasant experience at Walmart than the 99% likely denial I expected I would've gotten at BD (after the usual 10-15 minute wait in the customer service line to get waited on). I watched it last night and thought it was decent.

I know you have a history of bad experiences at BB, but I had no problem getting this PM'd at BB. I have problems getting PM's at Target practically every time. BB I usually have no issues... The reason is because my Targets force you to do PM's at customer service. Since BB does them at the register, all you have to do is find a younger clerk, or at least one without a radio.
At my BB's customer service the same few employees are always there and do their best to deny me for any reason whatsoever. That's why I rarely even try if there is any reason whatsoever they could deny me because I know they'll find it... a coupon is one, an ambiguous ad (like this one) is another, and them selling a special exclusive version is a third reason. I usually have better success at other BBs further away, but I don't like driving a long ways and don't try unless I'm already out that way.
My Target's customer service usually has a much shorter wait time and there are often different employees there who don't seem to have a "deny or die" agenda like my BB does. I'd say I have 95% success at Target or Walmart and about 10% at BB when it's not straightforward or a coupon is involved. If it were a straightforward PM and nothing else, then yes even my BB would do it after making me wait 10 minutes in line + another 10 minutes while they call Target to verify price and inventory (no other stores do that except BB and Fry's). Or I can wait 3 minutes in line and be done in 1 minute at Target and Walmart.
So I'll conclude by saying one's store experience depends on your particular store and area, and my BB falls into the unfriendly camp. Besides, I already opened and watched my Red BD from Walmart, so "it's too late for me now, son".

Interesting... your BB allows PMs at any register? My BB stores haven't done that for years, and it's not just my nearest one. I assumed all BBs did that throughout the country. I wonder if it's just my area that makes you go to customer service? I haven't asked for a while in case perhaps they reversed that policy.

Went to Best Buy to price match the Target ad but didn't realize they didn't have the regular special edition blu ray. I didn't want the flipper disc. So went to Wal Mart and didn't have any issues with the price match. Glad it worked out.

I'm surprised some people are turning the BB edition down because it's a flipper. I would like to think by now that manufacturers are capable of making flipper discs that are equally strong and stable as a regular disc. I know I always worried about them coming unglued, but it never happened with any of my DVDs (just with a few good old overpriced LDs). To me the disadvantage would be reading the label around the hub, but if I had had the choice I wouldn't have minded the DVD of Red on the backside. If my nearest BB weren't 5 miles away vs. 1 mile away for Walmart or Target, I might try BB more often, but given my poor success with BB I usually don't bother to make the trip as I don't like driving 10 miles for nothing (and gas ain't getting any cheaper).

Took the movie to the register at BB with the ad and the kid working the register refused to do it saying it was a different version, even though theirs is nothing like the others since it is exclusive. Touche though so I wasn't going to get mad or argue since he was technically right. Walked over to CS and they pm'd it no problem, was out the door 5 minutes later with the flipper.

BTW : Is there a problem with the "flipper"? It's just the SE on one side and a DVD on the other, right?

That's precisely what I asked a few posts above, but I guess my verbosity made it hard to see that. The only 2 reasons I can think of to dislike a flipper are: (1) the label is small (just a ring around the inner hub) and (2) some people may fear manufacturing issues with glued flippers (though I haven't heard of any since the DVD-18 Warner/Universal sets several years ago). It wouldn't have bothered me to have the flipper, but as I previously blabbed above I didn't even try to get it at BB.

There isn't a two pack, as far as I understand. Just a single disc bare bones (that lacks lossless audio), a single disc SE and the Best Buy SE combo flipper, right?

Posted in the Walmart BD thread but thought I'd mention it here as well...
Picked up the RED SE today, $12.96 + tax out the door
Shelf tag was right and it rang up with no fuss....not sure if it's YMMV but worth checking out if you don't have it yet

I doubt that two discs cost more than a flipper. My guess is that two discs is viewed as losing sales due to the DVD being sold or given away separately.
