Sounds kind of complicated but this went very smoothly for me. Amazon is offering a free $5 Video on Demand credit if you send a tweet through their site. They also have select VOD rentals that will send you a $4 off promo code for the DVD or BD.


Step 1: Need a twitter account (Free to sign up)

Step 2: Go Here on Amazon. Follow Instructions. You should have automatically got the $5 VOD credit.

Step 3: Go Here on Amazon. This is the full list of Eligible Movies for the $4 off Credit. All of these rentals are under $5 and you will get a $4 off credit that may be used towards the purchase of that title's DVD or Blu-ray.

Step 4: Rent a movie, they will send you an email with the credit. (Showed up under a few seconds for me) It will automatically apply when you go to check out with the same movie on BD/DVD.

A few good examples:

The Expendables: Blu-ray: $8.99 AC, DVD: $5.99 AC

Inception: Blu-ray: $13.99 AC, DVD: $5.99 AC

The Sorcerer's Apprentice: BD/DVD Combo: $10.99 AC

The Karate Kid: BD/DVD Combo: $10.99 AC

Toy Story: Blu-ray: $8.99 AC

Got the free $5 VOD credit. Not really seeing much else to buy with the $4 coupon. The prices seem pretty inflated.

BTW,

Anyone know how to check how much VOD credit you have? I know I have some for Movies and Music, I just have no idea where I go to see the balance.

When you click on a movie, there is an option to check your balance and it will show all your amazon digital credits.

I had ordered Expendables like 10 minutes before I saw this post, and can't cancel it. I used my $10 Coinstar promotional credit on that order, and you can't have more than one promo credit, so I'm kinda SOL.

Ugh. I followed all the steps with my twitter account and didn't see that I had to rent Inception in order to get $4 off Inception. Now I have a free rental for Easy-A and no coupon code coming.

Emailed Amazon. They were kind enough to credit me back the promo so I could rent Inception and get the $4 off promo to buy. 1st Class service.

It says right in the instructions the 4 dollars is off of the same movie you rented if you buy it. It does help to read the stuff. Either way you should mail amazon, maybe they can help you out.

You can always email them and say you rented it in error. Ask nicely and they may give you credit for it. The worse that can happen is that they deny you.

No money now, but I went ahead and got the 99 cent versions of Toy Story 1, Toy Story 2 and A christmas carol since i can use the credit until march and i had a bunch of vod credit in my account.
