There's one Target about 7 miles from me who's stock says "Available". I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to get off my ass in the unlikely event that they actually have it.

Big thing is.. no matter what their system says.. if they say they have 1.. they likey do have 1.. but in the back.. and you need the number... 058-40-0021.... that will help you in your quest... and make sure you ask they check the stock room... happy hunting...

Having the number helps. I would take a print out of the inventory showing Available with you. It has the numbers on the print out for them to check the stock room.

Probably a dumb question, but how do I approve the delay on their website? I only see a link to cancel. Do I just do nothing? Nice to see Target is going through with this. I'm secretly laughing at those SD jerks that ordered mega copies hoping to flip them for Christmas.

Found the answer. It does say in the email, "If you checked out as a guest, your approval is not required."

Not necessarily. Black Friday is also one of the largest shrinkage days of the year and it's possible someone didn't even want to pay $8 for them. If they are still in inventory at this point, they are probably hidden somewhere by employees to purchase later. You know people come in asking about them, so it's unlikely to actually get one at this point.

This is the email I just received
We wanted to let you know that there is an unexpected delay with one or more items in
the order you placed on November 24 2010.
This may prevent us from delivering some items for December 24.
Please accept our apologies for this delay.
Please approve this delay so that we can continue processing your order.
(Note that if we haven't received your approval by December 27 2010,
we'll still try to obtain and ship the item(s) before that date.)
To do so, visit the following Order Update page in My Account:
Items Ordered Price $7.99
1 of: The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (6 Discs) (Blu-ray)
estimated delivery: Jan 13, 2011 to Jan 18, 2011
still worth it

Yep. Got that email this morning myself. I'll wait it out.

I was afraid I read email that people were getting cancellations. I'm a little relieved to see it will be a delay. Let's just hope they actually get more in stock and not feed us some shit and cancel later.

I also received the January shipping date notification. Hopefully it ends up shipping sooner, but if not, no big deal.

I just went to the email and it says that I have to approve the delay but there is nowhere to do so. It also says that it isn't expected to ship until the middle of January. I'm not holding my breath on this deal anymore.

Since this is a good retailer, I'd expect these things to ship when they say they will. There's always a chance they won't get any more in, but I don't think Target would pull a "we can't get any more" just so they don't lose money on the sale.
If this were Best Buy, Barnes and Noble or Overstock.com, I would say you are SOL.
But Target, Wal-Mart and Amazon are much more reputable.
BTW, I scored one. It was right where I hid it on Wed.

For those who received the email that the LOTR Trilogy is delayed and you have to confirm, did any of you order via your Amazon account?
I don't have a Target.com account set up, so when I ordered, I did it through Amazon. I haven't received any emails about it yet, so I don't know if that means I might be lucky and get one sooner or if their system isn't set up to send those emails if you went through Amazon. Anyone know?

How do you actually confirm they acceptance of the delay? It doesn't give me the option to. The only option it gives me is to cancel.

No problem waiting for me. Also, the approval process was quite obvious, there's a check box labeled "Approve", and a (Update) button at the bottom.
