Re: About DVD Empire
Not everyone takes time to look for the best price. This is pretty evident by people who pay the full price for a blu-ray at Borders, Best Buy, Ultimate Electronics. Heck, look at blu-ray auctions on ebay.com, and you will see people bidding for movies that are cheaper to buy from Amazon.com.
Some people just don't know that there are cheaper prices out there.

Just look up prices on blu-ray.com since they do all the work. You'll never see DVD Empire on there with any of their prices. Although I believe I did buy one BD last holiday season during one of the sales.

Re: About DVD Empire
(Besides the fact that this thread should be in the store forum), my guess would be that they do sell enough to stay in business. Not everybody shops for the absolutely lowest prices. I have not shopped there for several years so I don't know how competitive their prices or service are. But I shop a lot at amazon, even if they do not have the lowest prices, just out of convenience and the (return) service they provide.

They also sell porn.

They do have coupons that bring it down somewhat and occasional sales and deals on preorders. I believe most of their business is on DVD and the high Blu ray is just small sideline for them.

Re: About DVD Empire
I've never bought from DVD Empire and know nothing about them. I've only used their web site a few times to check back covers and disc layer info. That said, one thing I've learned is that if it's a small business (with only a few employees, perhaps part-time) it doesn't take much in sales/profits to keep it going. I remember once dealing with a used software company about 20 years ago (back before game consoles or fast IBM PCs)... they had a really fancy catalog and a large inventory. I figured it must be a large company until I called them once (pretty sure it wasn't toll free) and talked to the guy who was very nice. He was chatty and said it was a family business with a few "employees" (family members) who used their garage to store the software. So they didn't have to sell much to stay in business.
I don't know if DVD Empire is that small or if they have a store front. Similarly, considering how horribly slow DeepDiscount is, I don't know if they are a small fry operation who can only get in a few backordered movies at a time. So before knowing how a company can stay in business, one first needs to know things such as how many (full/part time) employees they have and if they have to pay rent on buildings or use their garage.

They often have great sales and have coupons listed every month in the DVD sales section.
I recently rediscovered them...what they have going for them is an easy to use website and excellent customer service.
