I felt the opposite. I found Trick r' Treat to be the most overrated movie I've seen in quite awhile.

I thought Creepshow was a great movie for its time. But horror movies have come a long way since then. I thought Trick R Treat was clever and entertaining. Was it a cinematic masterpiece? Of course not. Did everything make sense? Definitely not (especially since we never learn what Sam is or where he comes from). But it was extremely entertaining, if you like horror movies that have different intertwined segments. For 8 bucks, it's hard to go wrong, IMO...

I got Ghostbusters, Reservoir Dogs and Starship Troopers for in-store pickup.

...then I was halfway to the car before I noticed that they had pulled a copy of Starship Troopers 3: Marauder on accident for my order. Um, thanks but no thanks. Thank goodness they still had a copy of the original handy.

How long will the LG titles stay BBY exclusives? And once they're free for all to sell they will stay the same right? Only asking because I'm really interested in Anchorman (not at $20) and wanted to make sure it would stay the same package.

Re: $7.99 Blu-Ray at bestbuy.com

Went for a lot of $7.99s on this great sale:

Bullitt
The Getaway
T3
Mongol
Omega Man
Wild Bunch
Planet Hulk (Didn't this initially come with a slipcase? Anyone know where I could find one? None of the copies I've seen in BB locally have them.)

I can't see the respective studios revisiting any of those, except perhaps T3. I'm honestly surprised OM even got a BD!

Debated but passed on:

Over the Top
Dead Calm

Love them both, but I'm perhaps hoping for future versions with a Stallone and Noyce commentary, respectively (although it may be unlikely).

'Planet Hulk' did initially come with a slip case. My local BB had 1 out of about 6 copies with one.

Looks like at least some of these are still going this week. Had to price match Galaxy Quest in store to the website though. Also picked up Ghostbusters!

Thanks for the heads up.

good to see this is rolling over into this week. I was on the fence about '2001 Maniacs' and '3:10 To Yuma' last week, but may go ahead and get them.

Re: $7.99 Blu-Ray at bestbuy.com

I recall that the 'High Tension' DVD I watched several years ago had English dubtitles that did not even make sense with the French soundtrack (i.e., dialogue that was on the English soundtrack was subtitled on the English subtitle track but that dialogue did not appear on the French soundtrack at all. It wasn't just that the English soundtrack mistranslated some dialogue to better match lip movements.)

I think that most of this extraneous dialogue tried to explain away why Cécile de France -- who dubbed her own dialogue -- had a French accent while all the other voice actors spoke in non-accented American television dialect.

Presumably that has been corrected?

Warner Bros. totally dicked Tr'T around, letting it rot on the shelf for two Halloweens before unceremoniously dumping it onto video in time for a third season; all the while pinching off new Saw installments for the theaters. What about people who refuse to support "torture porn" films like Saw or Hostel who would gladly slap down the jack for movies like Feast (the first one, not the crap sequels) or Tr'T?

I'd downloaded Tr'T, but when it came up on Amazon for $10 on BD, I called my g/f and asked if we should get it and her instant reply was, "Oh, hell yeah!" It's almost impossible to buy a single evening-price movie ticket for $8 these days, so this shouldn't be considered much of a gamble.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but Creepshow is a classic.

If Creepshow doesn't hold up, than really, either A) you don't get the target audience, or B) none of the horror movies older than 10 years old don't hold up.

Well, yes and no. The self-justifying dialogue added to the US theatrical English dub is still there in the English dub on the B-r, just not indicated in the English subtitle or English SDH tracks. But it's obvious that both English subtitle tracks are largely taken from the dub, not translated from the original French. Marie's line to Alex in the car just before the cornfield scene is subtitled as "You still have some sarcasm, you know," which would seem to be someone's attempt to decipher Cécile de France's accent from the English dub saying "You still have some sparkles on, you know." That same line is translated on the R2 Optimum DVD as "Your glitter didn't wash off." Lines that aren't in the English dub don't get subtitled; Alex's little brother says, "You're dead, Hendrix!" to the dog when he's playing and it's never indicated.

I don't think Creepshow held up very well either, but Twilight Zone: The Movie, for example, held up well for me and they are very similar in the type of horror movie they strive to be. The Leslie Nielsen segment (Something to Tide You Over) is really the only one in Creepshow that didn't nearly put me to sleep.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Did Lionsgate(?) release a corrected US DVD?

Wow, I also think CREEPSHOW deserves more praise than it's getting here. I still think "The Crate," "Father's Day," and "They're Creeping Up on You," in addition to "Something to Tide You Over," work quite well in terms of scares, but especially the humor. The only one that really does nothing for me is "Jordy Verrill." CREEPSHOW is so lovingly put together and out of place amongst today's mostly overly gory, CGI-reliant, nihilistic horror fare, that it probably looks better to me than it did to me as a kid in the '80s. And, even though it is sans extras, Warner's Blu-ray is quite gorgeous to my eyes.
