You could always email a different department with a similar query - I sent emails to several departments during the Up/Monsters Inc. madness - but that could be pushing it.

lame.

I got that note, too. At the bottom of that e-mail there is an option to tell them that this response was not helpful. I did that and sent another similar message.

^ I received the same response and am about to take the same action. I've ordered just about all my Disney blus through Amazon - I guess they figured I wouldn't need any extra "encouragement" in shopping there?

I know not everyone is entitled, but handing out $8 credits to some customers who wrote in while giving the brush off to others doesn't feel great. But it's their prerogative - I don't have to buy it there, after all.

Welcome to the world of Amazon customer service (online). It's a hundred people a shift, 3 shifts a day, someplace in India.

If you don't like an answer you get, keep trying, you are bound to the one you want eventually.

Using Brent's letter, with some additional flourish, I received this reply without any flourish at all:

Hello,

I checked our website and I was unable to find the information you are referring to.

I suggest you to write back to us with more information about the offer (or) send the mail if you received any, regarding this offer.

I initially received the same email. I just cut and pasted the email sumdeus received and sent it to the link Amazon provided for additional information, stating that this was the body of the email others had been receiving. Amazon then gave me the $8 credit.

I went to sell some of my BN Criterion blu-rays that I know I won't watch again anytime soon. It seems there are a couple sales going on bringing things down to pretty decent prices (though not as good as a fully maximized BN sale).

I believe they are just matching some of DD's prices.

Che blu-ray is $29.49 (compare to SD $43.49); MSRP $50
By Brakhage is $43.99; MSRP $80.

Several other blu-rays are $25 (yeah, not that great) including Walkabout, Stagecoach, etc.

Anyway, maybe someone can get some use of it.

Amazon is creeping a little closer to the Best Buy sale on some titles:

The Prestige $11.49
Galaxy Quest $11.99

Unfortunately, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut is still $16.49

I was not sure I would be using it or not. I had a $10, & 5.32 credit and with the $8.00 made it $5.65.

Here's the thread:

I grabbed In Bruges and Psycho for $30.48 shipped. They have good prices on Atonement ($12.49), Smoking Aces ($12.99) and Pride & Prejudice ($13.99).

And amazon continues to turn us all into a bunch of day traders and short sellers, screaming at the screen when we see prices at the sweet spot "BUY BUY BUY", before the market crashes.

it is becoming quite exciting, really.

The first email I got after asking about the promotional credit was this:

We occasionally offer promotional certificates to potential customers or to selected existing customers, to encourage them to shop at Amazon.com. I apologize that you weren't sent a $8 promotional code for Toy Story 3, however, this was only sent to selected customers.

Then I complained a little and got this one:

Hello,

I have applied a promotional certificate for $16 directly to your account, and
you won't receive a claim code.

The balance only appears when you place a qualifying order and doesn't display
in Your Account. You'll see the promotional funds listed in the order cost
summary that appears just before you submit your order.

If you don't see the promotional discount in your order summary, please check
the conditions of the promotional offer or visit our Help pages for more
information:

Sometimes it's worth complaining over. :) Although it may just be karma at work as they accidentally refunded me $20.49 last week for a blu-ray that they sent me a replacement for and I told them about it and gave them permission to take the $20.49 out of my account.
