Re: Movie Gallery Closings
Went to a Movie Gallery out of town last week and picked up:
Sherlock Holmes 9 Yesterday, our local store had all Blu Rays $5.99 and games 60% off and I picked up a few more: PS3 Borderlands Dead Space Blu Rays Lovely Bones Valkyrie The Men Who Stare at Goats Quantum of Solace I might wait until they drop some more and pick up some blind buys that I am not so sure about. |
Re: Movie Gallery Closings
The one closest to me in La Vergne, TN closes on Sunday and I have been raping their blurays all week.
At 5.99 a piece I picked up An Education Let The Right One In At 4.99 a piece I picked up Did You Hear About The Morgans Moon 30 Days of Night Tropic Thunder The Box And then today for $2.99 a piece! Management Nick and Noras Infinite Playlist Synecdoche, New York Julie & Julia The Damned United Observe and Report The Brothers Bloom Whatever Works Role Models Unrated Sex Drive Unrated Changeling Burn After Reading Slumdog Millionare I'm pretty excited as they were all in excellent condition with no stickers on sleeves. |
Re: Movie Gallery Closings
Just got back from the store in Liberty, TX. They are 3 days from closing. Core DVDs were 10/$10 or $1.49 each. BDs were $2.99 each. I probably should've picked up seasons 1 & 2 of Big Love and all the seasons of Deadwood but I will just wait until they are out in HD. I was mainly concentrating on their Blu-Ray section.
Here's what I got: Leatherheads Harold & Kumar Escape for Guantanamo Duplicity Pirates II Stagnetti's Revenge (some softcore film distributed by Wicked Pictures) Talladega Nights The Life Before Her Eyes Parks & Recreation Season 1 ($1.49) all for $20 and change. There were about 25-30 BDs left in the Liberty store. About 6 copies of Gran Torino were left as well Superbad, 3 copies of Defiance, and a few other decent titles. |
Re: Movie Gallery Closings
mine closes next thursday so I'm going to try to go monday or tuesday when they should be at a few bucks a piece

Re: Movie Gallery Closings
Movie Gallery and Hollywood Video in Madison, AL both have used BRs at $5.99. Decent selection in both stores. I picked up Underworld/Lycans, Changeling, Narnja/Caspian, Cloudy w/ Meatballs, Up in the Air, and Knowing. Decent flix at a decent price.

http://www.discmakers.com/shop/ItemD...D=BDR020-00001 Has anyone tried the cheaper (Premium) cases and can tell me why the Elite case is worth the extra 8 cents? Are the insert tabs different or is it just better/thicker plastic? Thanks. |
Re: Movie Gallery Closings
I've never purchased the premium cases. I know that several studios use the elite brand so for a couple extra bucks I went with those. Discmakers ships pretty darn fast and they'll send you a UPS tracking number.

Re: Movie Gallery Closings
I went to a store yesterday that's closing this coming Tuesday, and all Blu-rays were $2.99 each. I picked up the following:
- Synecdoche, New York - W. - Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist - Frost Nixon - Before The Devil Knows You're Dead - Dan In Real Life - Gone Baby Gone - Fred Claus - Julie & Julia - Max Payne - The Brothers Bloom (glad I didn't buy it for $6.99 at Best Buy) - The Rocker - Lakeview Terrace - The Young Victoria - An Education - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Criterion 2-Disc) - The Other Man - LymeLife - King of California - What Doesn't Kill You - Swing Vote There were a bunch of others that I either already owned or had picked up from HollywoodVideo.com, and that pissed me off, but whatever. I'm happy. I took a chance on a few of these for $2.99, but at that price, I guarantee I can make my money back at least. I almost bit on Eddie Murphy's "Imagine That" also, but as much as I love Eddie, I couldn't bring myself to do it. |

Re: Movie Gallery Closings
I have a question. OK. I just found out there is a HV closing in charlotte (about an hour or so from where i live), and Tuesday is their last day. I'm heading up tomorrow. What should i expect, price wise? from what i've been reading, it seems like the HV closings have better deals that MG. so, all you bargain hunters out there who have been hitting the last days of HV, give me some good news.

Re: Movie Gallery Closings
I went to a couple of HVs around Houston in May and they got up to 90% but man it was picked over. One store had 1 blu-ray of "The Damned United" left with still a day or two to close. So while there may be better deals, being in a metropolitan area such as Charlotte likely means more sophisticated blu-ray folk. Remember, Movie Gallery stores tend to be in rural areas -- it's likely that the residents in these areas are less likely to adopt more expensive and confusing technologies. Thus MGs seem to have more blu-rays available when it's closing time.
By the way I basically looted my way through the Liberty, TX store in what was likely it's last day. I picked up the first three seasons of Big Love (and they were in pristine condition) as well as several other DVDs such CSNY "Deja Vu" and 9 more blu-rays including Run Fatboy Run The International Bride Wars Pride and Glory Mr. Brooks Body of Lies W. and a few others I can't think of right this second for $35. |
Re: Movie Gallery Closings
I snagged the last copies of Black Dynamite and Up in the Air for $5.99 each at the store in Marion, NC. Both were in absolute perfect condition.

Very cool. I didn't see Black Dynamite. I'm glad you snagged a copy since that's what you were looking for. Was there still a good selection left?

Re: Movie Gallery Closings
Drove up to Moberly, MO for their Movie Gallery's final day. Blu-rays were $1.99 each, not much of a selection left. Got the following,
Easy Virtue 100 Feet Adoration Edge Of Love Blood, The Last Vampire (live action, really happy I found this....me and another guy was reaching for this at the same time, but ultimately, I prevailed) Milk What Just Happened? |
Re: Movie Gallery Closings
Sorry, i wanted to post this yesterday but was crazy busy. So, I went to the HV in Kannapolis, NC day before closing. Short story -- I ended up with 30 blurays and 80 DVDs. Blurays were a 1.99 and DVDs .75. The average per disc Bd + DVD came to 1.12 (1.19 with my share of the gas factored in). Our video of the trip should be up in the next day or two, and i'll post a direct link when it is. But, i'm going to list my bluray pick-ups here. i'm listing 28, as 2 were titles that i picked up for a friend.
The Ruins We Own The Night Before The Devil Knows You're Dead True Blood (one disc, the last 2 eps +bonus features, what the hell) Frozen River Milk Whatever Works I've Loved You So Long Sex And The City (i know, i know, but it's going for 9+ on ebay) W. Be Kind Rewind Prom Night The International Saw III The Wackness The Informers The Damned United The Spirit Postal the life before her eyes Synecdoche New York Drillbit Taylor Soul Power The Rocker What Just Happened The Final Destination An Education Michael Clayton Now, obviously alot of these titles I wouldn't have touched at 5.99, but at 2 bucks it's a different story. I have to say I was VERY pleased with my haul. Oh, and I scored 3 Star Wars bobble heads. Anakin, Clone Trooper (HV exclusive), and Boba Fett. So, kickass trip! |
Re: Movie Gallery Closings
My final take (at least until my HWV gets down to 1.99)
