I've never seen Vanishing Point, but I figured it was worth $10 on a blind buy. I'll double-feature it with Death Proof just for fun.

There is just a few in there. I think I have over 400 blu's and about 40-50 dvd's left. mostly they are tv shows, star wars and some older 80's stuff. Wish I could own everything on blu but some just wont ever get there I dont think.

An aisle here had some Blu + DVD combos waiting to be sorted out I guess... 1408, Diary of the Dead, others. No prices so... No clue. The BD selection was pretty weak. Figures, I finally went Blu last week and found...
Nothing.
Nothing.

My local had a majority of those blu's for the prices listed, but alas no 'Trick 'R Treat' otherwise I would have picked it up.

Found many of these today... I picked up Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I've given up hope of an extended edition BD... Still looking for 30 Days of Night...
Also saw Saw VI for $20. I've been waiting for a deal on that. Never saw that one any cheaper...

Was every one of those shelf tags for Avatar? I wonder if they were for other movies and the Avatar BDs were being used as placeholders so that the shelves wouldn't look so empty.

They were ALL for avatar... it was definitely interesting to see. Sad thing was they were marked $24.96.

I can expect they may be setting up for a big promo blow out... before getting stuck with stock of a movie that is expected to return to theaters in a new version and as well come out in 3D on blu.....

Back before BD, I remember when stores would get an insane amount of a single DVD title what they would eventually do is put them all out for sale like that. Then over the following weeks they would slowly drop the price on them. I have seen "new" releases like that on DVD get down to $5 after a little bit of time just because they bought so many of them. I fully expect to see Avatar get down to $5 or $10 eventually at WM.
My cousin works at a WM and he said they bought a ridiculous amount of Avatar DVDs and BDs. I'm talking they paid in the tens of thousands just for Avatar copies.
If any of you want that movie, just wait it out. It wont be long before you'll be able to pick it up for almost nothing, at WM or elsewhere.

Is it me or is there a new avatar commercial on TV that now says FOR A LIMITED TIME at the end? Just saw it an hour ago on tv and it seemed new.

My guess? It will be available for a limited time, meaning until they release the multi-disc SE version this November (at which point this initial barebones release will quietly go OOP)....

Yeah, it's the new 18-Disc AvaTAR Edition. With 12oz of pure BP sludge in a resealable package. The kids will love it. And they'll look so cute getting all oily and dirty and stuff.

I think WM over-bought Avatar just because they are both blue... It seems like the perfect movie for them.

I'm surprised Walmart didn't just automatically charge customers for Avatar as they checked out and if anyone objected...security would be called to squash any resistance.

So, I wouldn't assume that, because there are still stores with a lot of copies on the shelves, Avatar didn't sell well and make a ton of money for Wal-mart. It may well have been the movie with the most copies manufactured to date so a lot of remainder stock can be expected. (And, of course, the used market will be glutted when the SE comes out this Fall.)
I got mine for the equivalent of $8 (because I sold the DVD for $12) and it is the best looking BD I've ever seen, by a wide margin, so no complaints from me. This is my new demo disc. If you want it but haven't bought it, waiting is certainly the best strategy. But don't assume it hasn't been a big money maker already.
