So what's the consensus... is the Target release the way to go?

If you don't want all the extra trinkets then it is the way to go.

...except that it's already gone (probably). You should get a rain check in case more copies come out later since it's $15 off MSRP this week.

My receipt says I saved $5 and the regular Target price is $39.99.

Well, take calling them with a grain of salt. I called my local one and they told me they never got them in. I went to the store a few hours later and pulled one off the shelf.

I think I'm just gonna get the UCE. I have some reward zone money that will make it less than the Target edition anyway.

Re: Best price on "The Wizard of Oz"?

I do wonder what the point of Target obtaining the exclusive rights to the BR-only set and then not making more than a handful available to any of their stores. For some inexplicable, unknown reason, Target vastly overestimates the interest in Christina Aguilera's Greatest Hits and underestimates the interest in a High Def vesion of The Wizard of Oz.
If I hadn't been reading what the folks in the East had been posting, I'd have not gone in at 8AM on Tuesday and I'd probably have missed out too.

Walmart has is for $20. From what I understand, its just a one-disc edition with no bells and whistles.

It is basically disc 1 of UCE / Target Edition... The extras listed include stuff from disc 2 which is not in this version. The sticker listing the extras is the same as the DVD version which is a 2-Disc version.

You picked up a rain check, right? I went to Target Wednesday night this week to pick up Monsters vs. Aliens BD for my kids, and checked on Oz just out of curiousity. They were all out, but I took a rain check slip to the checkout and got a rain check. Kind of ideal as I wasn't sure I wanted to buy this set, but now I locked in this discounted price until November when the rain check expires and I can decide what I want to do.

We bought ours on Thursday night, and I saw them again today at a different location. So they're out there.

We're in Minneapolis where Target is based - not sure if that affects numbers at all. I wouldn't think so.

Re: Best price on "The Wizard of Oz"?

They are out there for sure. I went to two different Targets today (looking for a few clearance items) and found a total of 14 copies of the Emerald Edition Blu-Ray. There are only 13 left now as I grabbed 1 at the first store.

I went to Target and trying to get a raincheck. I asked the target employee for a raincheck and he told me the blu-way was not release yet. Then I said it was released on Tue, then he said it was not release in the store. What an idiot!

Re: Best price on "The Wizard of Oz"?

Scored the Target version last night in College Point, NY
Looked like they had 2 more copies, though no one who worked there seemed to know they had it or what it was! When I asked they kept directing me to the large Deluxe box. The woman who checked me out said "oh, they released a smaller one!". I told her it was a Target exclusive and she looked at me like I had two heads!

Re: Best price on "The Wizard of Oz"?

I had been checking Target quite often in the past few days. I still couldn't find a copy. I hope I can get one before the raincheck expire on Nov.

What the hell section is this in? I've been to 3 Targets in North Phoenix and can't find a damn one of them.

I have my rain check too.

I hadn't seen it recently, but today it reappeared on the very bottom row of the main BD section. (This was a Super Target.)

Re: Best price on "The Wizard of Oz"?

The UCE is now $45.49 at Amazon, presumably to match BB's 30% off sale pricing.
