Honestly, selling a $15 steelbook for $25 isn't really a gain for the sellers. Approximately 25% of the selling price goes back to the website, factor in shipping, packaging, cost to drive to WM and get them means the seller might make a couple of bucks. I know that doesn't really help you but those sellers really aren't taking anyone to the cleaners selling at $25.

The Iron Man 2 Combo Pack is shown in the Walmart flier I received in today's paper. The $15 Rollback price is surrounded by the following Blu-Rays, but not next to the Iron Man 2 picture, so I didn't think that this price would be good for IM2. The other $15 Blu-rays shown are: The Blind Side, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter (Half Blood Prince), Where the Wild Things Are, and all three Lord of the Rings movies. The LOTR's are shown as being available 9/14. My local Walmart didn't have any of these movies, but they are available at Walmart.com (no free shipping, except for Site-To-Store though).

Well, if that is what I agree to buy then that is what I would expect to receive. I wouldn't respond to receiving the one disc set rather than the three disc one with a shrug and an oh well.

The $15 price is good on IM2{read previous posts in this thread}.

Yep, I know. I had already placed my order at Walmart.com when I posted. Just wanted to point out that the ad was not clear that this price would be for IM2. I also wanted to point out the great prices for The Blind Side, Sherlock Holmes, and Where The Wild Things Are.

I know , I used to sell on Ebay a while back. It was more frustration than anything.

Anywho, I did finally find RE Degeneration BR Steelbook at another Walmart that I don't normally go to. They had several copies of each, so I could have bought them all if I so desired.

re: Walmart / walmart.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Out of curiosity, is it just my local Walmarts or do all Walmarts nationwide wait until late morning (well after 10 AM) before they put out Tuesday's new release Blu-Rays?

I called both Walmarts and they said they only have the Prince of Persia DVD out and don't know when they would find the box with the Blu-Rays... "sometime later today". I said not only do I have a very limited time schedule when I can go to stores with my job, but Target and Best Buy always have their product out when they open. Of course these are 24 hour Walmarts, but that's no excuse. I said if they could just tell me the price, that would be good enough, but they said there's no way they could look it up. Just about any other store could, but not Walmart.

I guess it bugs me that I can't find out Walmart's price on Disney Blu-Rays until around noon or later because they are so ignorant and inefficient. I prefer to buy early in the morning before I go to work, but can't. If I buy at Target or Best Buy, then Walmart will have a better price (even if only by a couple dollars). If I wait until the evening to find out Walmart's price, it's always the same or more and then Target is usually out of stock and Best Buy often gives grief with manufacturer's coupons. I have to call my local Walmart stores because every Walmart can have a different price. I doubt they would be any better than Target at mine since I'm in an area where all the mom & pops were driven out of business long ago.

This is the third time in a row I've called my Walmarts when a new release Disney Blu-Ray came out and gotten the same story, so they obviously have no intention of trying to get Blu-Ray product out early.

So, again, I'm just curious if all Walmarts are the same way about Blu-Ray new releases, or just mine?

Actually, if you pull up the ad on the Walmart website and click on the Iron Man 2 cover, it pops up that it's $15. That's how I just got them to adjust the price.

The way it's been explained to me is that official store policy is that product should be on the floor as soon as possible. Third shift begins at 10:00 PM, so generally by 11:00 product is on the floor waiting to be unboxed and stocked. Electronics is kind of different because they can't legally do this until after midnight.

Anything big enough to warrant its own floor display arrives days beforehand, because those things are big and important and studios want to ensure that consumers don't come into a store whose prominent display is still in transit. Those things should be on the floor the moment it can legally be sold. Often, you'll see them on the floor but covered late Monday night, and all the employees have to do is remove the outer cardboard shell.

However, it is up to department managers to enforce this and as they never work third shift, it's up to their lackeys whose enthusiasm for following directions may not be up to snuff.

Additionally, for whatever reason, I've encountered for the last few years a lot of instances where entertainment media was delivered to the store via UPS instead of with the rest of the store's inventory. I suspect that happens in instances where the stores have higher rates of shrinkage (employee theft).

Also odd: I've encountered people stocking entertainment media from time to time who aren't even Walmart employees at all; they'll let you know they work for another business and were contracted for the purpose of delivering and stocking the media.

So, in answer to what Walmart's actual practice and/or policy is for putting new product on the shelves, I can only say that the practice I've encountered differs greatly from the policy that's been explained to me.

Wish the price on the Lord of the Rings trilogy would be closer to getting them all three separately. I wouldn't mind picking them up but would rather have the trilogy pack to save shelf space. I'd rather get the three individually though and pay $45 versus paying $70 for the set. Lame.

When I worked at Wal-mart years ago, there was a lady who would come in and stock the CDs every week. Everything else in the department was stocked by the employees.

re: Walmart / walmart.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

MinLShaw, thanks for the explanation. So, I think you're saying each Walmart store does it how they want, and it's fairly typical for some stores not to have new release movies (especially Blu-Rays) put out until late morning (11 AM or later)?

Maybe a few other people could post if their Walmarts are consistently late (i.e. >10 AM) in putting out new release Blu-Rays on Tuesday mornings?

It won't change anything, but at least it'll help me know if my local Walmarts are typical or extra lame. I tend to assume the latter. It's sad that any store so massive can't look up the price of a new release in their system at a customer's request when I've been told by various people (and read past stock analyst opinions) that Walmart supposedly has the best inventory system of any retailer in the world. In my opinion, it's not a very good inventory system if local stores can't even search it to determine prices or availability. My guess is they probably could search it but either (1) are too lazy to try or (2) have never been told how. Again, all guesses.

Don't know if its been posted yet, but my closest wal mart had Evil Dead for $17 and Hatchet for $15. This is a store with a rather small BD selection, so it was nice to see those titles.

Nice find indeed! That has to be the largest collection of BD's priced under $10 I have seen. For anyone who wants to pick up some decently priced BD's right now this is a good option.

Too bad the Blu-ray got DNRed and removed Special Features from the HD DVD. One of the few HD DVDs I'd like to upgrade to on Blu-ray but won't because Universal screwed it up so bad (the UK import is way better and only a little bit more expensive).

Yeah, the removed special features was annoying, but I thought the quality of the video was worth the upgrade, even if it was less than perfect. I'm not familiar with the reviewer, but Dvdtalker Ryan Keefer said it was a pretty solid release. He gave it 4 out of 5 for video.

Also, as per the $3 Christmas Story, I've seen that there for months with no luck!

re: Walmart / walmart.com discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Saw Sherlock Holmes on an endcap for $15.00 and noticed they had both the single blu-ray and the blu-ray/DVD combo packs for the same price, all mixed in together.

(I just ordered this from Amazon for $15.49 and they sent me the combo pack so I was happy, would have been bummed after seeing this if they didn't send the combo)

They shuffled things around in my Wal Mart. the alphabetical list is gone in favor of several areas of bargains. I almost bit on a couple of the $10 titles then changed my mind. Everything I pick up I owned and hadn't watched in ages so i must not need it that bad.

Got my shipping notification (Fed-EX) for Iron Man 2 BB from Walmart today. But I was charged the full price and they never took off the $10.16 E-Giftcard amount. So I fired off a email to them. Lets see what happens.
