I got Skyfall on BD for $9.99 the other day, cheapest I've seen the movie.

Me too, in Portland, OR. Even the checker was in awe of the price.

FWIW, Costco has the World War Z 3D "deluxe" edition that includes an extended 2D version on BR, DVD and digital copy for $22.99.

Last week they had the Star Trek Into Darkness 3D BR, 2D BR, DVD and DC edition for the same price as WWZ this week.

Not a bargain yet @ $80 but Costco has the Batman Trilogy Ultimate Collection box set. Hopefully there will be a coupon during the holiday season.

Bought it as a blind buy and it was actually quite entertaining. Wish the Studio Ghibli BR were less expensive.

Not that its much of a bargain but those looking for Iron Man 3, they have the BR/DVD/DC version for $20. $8 instant rebate off the $27.99 price.

I saw a bunch of new titles, but didn't have time to make notes of them all. Here's what I remember:

* The Sopranos sets; John Adams - $17.99
* A Good Day To Die Hard - $9.99
* Bunches more at $6.79, $9.99 and $11.99 price points.

Regarding the Sopranos sets, they haven't released other seasons on blu yet (besides 1 and 6), have they?

Not a Blu-Ray question, but have any of you seen any of the seasons of Breaking Bad at Costco recently? If so how much?

No. I spent about $180 on the DVDs years before I had an HDTV and watched episodes on HBO HD. Now I want to rebuy them in HD, but only in a complete series box set.

I bought S4 on DVD about a month ago for $12. Can't recall if they had any other seasons because I already had S1-3 on Blu. They may've had S5, but it was more than I wanted to spend.

After three seasons of Blu, switching to DVD is sadness. The menus are fuzzy, not crisp, and for some reason there aren't any English subtitles. Because characters frequently whisper and I usually watch in 1.5X playback speed, I flip on the subs to make sure I don't miss anything. I go to do this with the DVDs and they have French and two Spanish tracks, but no English. Very weird.

Looking at the specs on the other season reveals a hodge-podge of languages. S2 DVD has French only while S4 BD has English, French, Spanish. S5 DVD has subtitles in French, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Thai; dubbed in French; Subtitles for the Hearing Impaired: English. Dafuq?

FYI - a complete series set is due for release in November 26th. It's sure to have new extras. You may want to hold off.

I don't understand Costco's Blu-Ray stocking plan.

They had the Bourne Identity set for around $18.
I was just waiting to renew my membership.

The same 3 or 4 copies were sitting there for, probably over a month.
Then bam, all copies disappear.

What is the deal? Are they on some time crunch?
Where do these copies go?
It is not like someone comes in on the last day and buys up all copies.

With certain inventory (especially MEDIA like books, DVDs, Blu-rays), they buy what they buy, and then when it's sold it's gone for good. It is an established practice with them. "Buy it when you see it because it might not be there the next time you come in." As far as they're concerned, you've learned your lesson the hard way and will jump on something that interests you the next time you see it - in case it isn't there on a subsequent visit. Sometimes with certain things, it's just because their buyers scored a great "deal" with someone, bought a large quanity of something and sold it all.

I read about this philosophy in a interview with their CEO in some "in flight" magazine a few years ago.

Slow-moving stock is rotated in and out of inventory on the floor and even between locations. Costco's relationship with media distributors is a little different than it is with most retailers. They often negotiate directly with a studio for a certain deal. The only other retailer with as much clout is Walmart.

So ... to recap ...

You're in Costco on multiple days checking over the inventory of stuff you can't buy because your membership's expired and you think these are the interesting questions to ask ...

Non-members can buy at Costco... they just have to pay an extra 10% or so.
