i wasn't a fan but my parents and my friends liked it. characters are more than one-dimensional but take on harsh stereotypes of what kind of people they try to portray. i didn't appreciate the humour in it, and i think for what it tries to achieve, it wallows too much in appealling to a big movie crowd. too heartfelt, good feeling, and romantic to succeed in what it wants to be (and should have been). i was a fan of la confidential but it looks to me like curtis hanson is a one hit wonder.

This was my favorite film of 2000. It was Ebert's second if you like Ebert. This movie is the type that makes me want to stand up and cheer when I saw it both times. The first time I saw it for free at an advanced screening so had to go and see it again because I WANTED to give it my money. If you like light subtle screball comedy mixed in with some veru subtle drama, this is it. This movie could have sucked, but Curtis Hanson pulled it off immensely. I don't think he is a one hit wonder at all. L.A. Confidential is one of my favorite films too, they are just totally different films so people could very easily like one and not the other.

Per my normal suggestions: I'd always watch a movie before buying it because styles differ.
However, this is a really great movie that I feel should be a staple in any dvd collectors collection. The acting was great, the cast was good, and the story was inspired.

buy...buy...buy, what are you waiting for?
This was a real gem that was greatly overlooked this past year. Sure there was some Oscar buzz, but not too many people actually embraced it theatrically. Performances are top-notch as are its story, direction and morover, its
execution. I can not wait to receive my dvd copy on March 13th. The wait is over, and in a market so jammed-packed with average film offerings, "WONDER BOYS" is the breath of fresh air we all need.
