Childish Gambino was better than 95% of the music acts on this show

I can't believe they got Stormy to appear! That was great!

I only saw the cold open - lotsa names in that - Kushner's Mickey Mouse voice killed me. Stormy was awkward, but the line about porn stars not being know for their acting was good.

Yea, it had Stiller, Martin Short (which I think few people recognized - hence the small reaction), Scarlett, Fallon and Stormy. I thought it was well done.

I'll bet only 5% of viewers knew Razz P Berry was a parody of an actual video

Childish Gambino?

Had to google it. I was like... Immature Genovese was already taken? Is this the younger brother of Juvenile Gambino?

But according to an article by Ken Tucker on Yahoo, and many supporters of the president, it was not funny and a dud that only got a smattering of applause.

Gee, I wonder why they saw the sketch that way? I LOVED it!

I first saw that video years ago when MTV had a show dedicated to the most bizarre music video's. I completely forgot about it until last nights parody. Both are amazing.

The Nickelback/R Kelly/Razz P Berry sketches were the highlights of each respective episode for me over the last couple months. I'm probably wrong but to my mind they all share a very similar comedic sensibility, not to mention the role music plays in all 3, I hope they're all from the same writer.

Unaired sketch. I am a Cavs fan and this is hilarious.

Glover really worked overtime here. It seemed like he was in pretty much every sketch and was the musical guest. Really great episode. I even laughed at the monologue, which almost never happens for me.

I loved the way the monologue went - they could have had him be awesome at everything, but when he immediately fell on the skateboard, and was like "that's an ollie", i lost it.

Our local NBC affiliate has some reputation for being tough to pick up with an HD digital atenna and this weekend it was really bad. All of the NBC stations didn't even show up in our channel lineup, never seen it that bad, and we finally got a signal for the last half hour, which was pretty good.

Well I am officially old because while I have enjoyed Donald Glover in various things, I thought this was one of the worst episodes in a long time. I think I only laughed once and it was during update. Just stupid skit after stupid skit with no laughs or point. The crowd sounded dead as well.

I tend to agree. Most of the show was flat-ish. Not totally bad a lot of the bits, the audience, even the Open were meh to me.

However, the musical performances are pretty damn good. I even found myself rewinding and repeating the 2nd performance.

Re: SNL (S43E19) -- 05/05/18 -- H: Donald Glover -- MG: Childish Gambino

I had not seen Donald Glover in anything except 'Community' which I only sporadically watched. I was surprised to hear he had been cast as young Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo movie but then caught an episode of Atlanta at a friends house and could see he was definitely someone to be watched.

I had no idea he had this alter-ego 'Childish Gambino' until I watched SNL. (I'm a middle aged white male)

While the show was good, probably even better than most episodes, the music was what truly stood out!

If you haven't seen it yet, go to YouTube and watch 'This is America', an incredible blistering statement on being black in today's USA.

21 Million views and counting....

Maybe it just seems so relevant because it comes out at a time while Kanye West says stupid shit about slavery and praises Trump.

Kanye West wishes he was half as talented. Colin Kaepernick, take note, this is how its done....a brilliant performance that says a lot in 3 minutes.

If this was 1967, the FBI would probably have a file on Donald Glover.
