SNL (S43E16) -- 03/17/18 -- H: Bill Hader -- MG: Arcade Fire

I’m actually staying a few blocks from 30 Rock right now... and on a whim (and because I woke up earlier than I wanted to), I walked the few blocks to the standby line.

While I waited for the “walk” signal to change, I could see the end of the line (about a block long).

As I approached the end of the line, I could see the pages handing out tickets, checking licenses, and taking names... but then the security guy informed me the line closed at 7:00am sharp and that it was now 7:01am... and wished me a good day.

Looks like the “Luck-o-the-Irish” ain’t with me this morning.

Oh well... it’s only Bill Hader (so we know we’ll get a “Stefan” sketch).

Anyways, here’s to a better St. Patrick’s Day!

Sucks maybe next time or pay somebody to wait in line and get those tickets.

I hope we see this!

They decided to cut the monologue short and jump right into The Californians . . . because that is always sure-fire hilarious

Really good episode. The age gap marriage sketch had me cracking up. I thought the poop in a lamp short was really good too. I loved seeing John Mulaney come out for the Stefon bit although I think the human squatty potty would have worked better if it was un politically correct.

Whatever they are, I thought they were terrible, or at least gave a terrible performance last night.

They used to be great. I have no idea what happened but they've totally gone off the deep end. Like Coldplay but even worse if that's possible.

I loved the Irish Dating Game sketch.

Overall I thought the episode was heads and shoulders funnier than the usual SNL fare. The cold open was particularly hilarious. John Goodman was perfect to play Rexy. Just my opinion, but the older school cast was so much better than the current line-up which is just so-so.

I’m pretty sure I’m the only person that doesn’t hate “The Californians” and Hader’s impression of Pacino is always great.

Undercover Office Potty

"Why do you have so many lamps?"

I'm a big fan of "inside baseball" type things. The Californians is funny because you can tell it's one big inside joke between Hader and Armisen. I didn't think it was funny at first, but it really grew on me.

Hader has something all of the cast members except McKinnon don't have.

I bet the audience did not know half the people spoofed in that Jurassic Park sketch.

That awful unfunny cast with Poehler, Fey, Hader, Samberg, Sudekis, Forte, and Armisen that nobody here liked.

I liked that cast better than the 90's cast with Ferrell, Kattan, Shannon, and Gastayer.

I don’t think the current group of male cast members are anything special, but I think it has a strong group of females.

That's pretty much true. Maybe Cecily Strong - maybe.
I think Taran Killam had it as well. Was SO pissed that they fired him. No guy on the show is good anymore

Someday, someone will use the phrase “SNL just isn’t as funny as it was back in the Kyle Mooney years.”

Great episode, and I thought Arcade Fire was awesome. Creature Comfort is an amazing song, and that was an amazing performance.

Kids today are doomed!

I came from the Hartman, Farley, Spade, Carvey, Rock, Nealon, Myers era. So obviously my generation is right...

I did too! And I’m sure you remember as well as I do hearing that it just wasn’t as good as the Belushi, Aykroyd, Murray, Radner era. Some things never change.

(And Kyle Mooney is pretty funny. I feel like I need to say it. Not saying he’s my favorite ever, but I didn’t mean to imply he’s a loser)

Oh yeah! My parents and their friends would always tell me that. As much as I like Murray, Aykroyd, Chase, etc. in their 80s movies, I never felt their SNL skits were terribly funny, with the exception of a few.

Did anyone else think Che was acting weird? Like he didn't want to be there, or something was bothering him? It was weird.

Re: SNL (S43E16) -- 03/17/18 -- H: Bill Hader -- MG: Arcade Fire

I was looking to see who was on there when I was 16 and it was split between one of the better casts and one of the shittier casts. The year I turned 16 was Dick Ebersol's ringer cast of Billy Crystal, Martin Short, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The next year was Joan Cusack, Robert Downey, Nora Dunn, Anthony Michael Hall, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Randy Quaid, Terry Sweeney, Danitra Vance. Bleah.
