Is Warner Bros really in financial trpuble? Batman v SUperman did pretty well and shouldn't they be getting some cash from the cable service sale to Charter?

Batman v Superman did not do "pretty well". $872M global on a $250M budget is meh at best. That should have been a slam-dunk $1B easy but they fucked it up.

LOL if a movie filled with C/D-list characters ends up being the most profitable of DC films and the A-list character films never makes as much.

True, it took a big drop from Friday to Saturday and those numbers could look even worse if it takes another larger-than-expected drop from Saturday to Sunday. Personally, I enjoyed the film, but I expect the box office drop to be at least equal to what BvS experienced.

I don't think anybody is saying WB is going down the tube, nor that it isn't a solid opening for SS. But signs are suggesting that SS will follow a similar box office trend to BvS, which clearly isn't what WB was hoping for. And the critical panning of the DC-based films is becoming a trend of its own, which raises the question about what's happening behind the scenes at WB and when it will be righted.

Ok let's talk about something other than SS. Star Trek is looking rough. $127m on a $185m budget. How's it doing overseas?
And Secret Life sure has staying power. Still top 5.

I contributed to Star Trek this weekend. I enjoyed it, even though I'm not a Star Trek fan (my dad is a fan).

I seriously think Star Trek benefited when Star Wars was not around.

Yeah, I mentioned in the GB thread I anticipated a 225m finish...I'm going to downgrade that to just above 200 now. A handful of markets still to open, but nothing that's going to move the needle much. 2nd lowest grossing movie of the big summer releases, BFG taking first. A yuuuge bomb!

Looks like Independence Day: Resurgence's foreign money saved it from being an outright bomb
Same thing will be needed for Star Trek Beyond.
