Re: Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) Time to dust off your Wii U!

Do I really have to drive to the store to dust off their Wii U display?

I kid, I kid. This game actually does look like fun. If I had a Wii U, I would definitely pick it up. In the meantime, I'll remove the shrink wrap and fire up SMG2 soon.

Never got into Pikmin. Tried it on gamecube and wii both times never grabbed me. I plan to get the others you mentioned when the price is around $20. Too many other games in my backlog at the moment.

I hope my Wii U works. It's been 11 months since I've turned it on.
It looks like there's finally a game worth playing.

So you bought it at launch, played for a few days and never turned it on?

That's basically what I've done. I did recently download Earthbound for it, and I got some of the 30 cent games. The last time I played it was with Lego City Undercover, so I haven't completely neglected it since launch, but this is far and away the least I've used a new console since, well, ever.

Not a thread crap, but an honest post: I wish Nintendo would go the way of Sega. This game looks cool, but I will never own a WiiU.

Yes.
I avoided reading all the launch hype. I did not know what to expect.
Nintendo makes my favorite games. I thought they'd have some to play, if not at launch, then soon after. A year later there's finally a reason to own a Wii U.

I've played more of my Wii U over the last year then any of the other systems I own (PS3, 360, 3DSXL).

Well, that was pretty stupid to drop $350 on something because you chose not read 'launch hype' on. It's not like you're avoiding spoilers for the new Batman film. It's a $350 console.

This is typically how nearly every Nintendo launch has been. 3DS was pathetic and now it's on track to be (once again) the best handheld system sold.

This Mario game looks fantastic. I really wish they would release this digitally 2 weeks early.

They make a few good games I would play, for systems I would never buy, that's what.

Ah, you mean they should just start making games for other systems.

That will probably happen if the wii u doesn't pick up, but the success of the DS might stop that from happening as well.

Between their pride and cash reserves, I don't think that'll happen anytime in the foreseeable future. I think it's more likely that they'd go portable-only (or develop some kind of portable/console hybrid) rather than go multiplatform. Having their own ecosystem is too firmly ingrained in Nintendo's DNA, and it'll take multiple, consecutive failed consoles for them to drop that market altogether.

Nintendo's not fundamentally broken. They're making some of the right strides, even if they won't pay off for a while, such as unifying the console and portable hardware divisions. I don't think the Wii U will ever be a meaningful commercial success, but I think it'll do well enough to be supported by Nintendo for a while.

Nintendo's biggest problems to my mind are poor resource allocation/planning, poor communication between groups/divisions, and abysmal marketing. Nothing the right leadership couldn't fix.

It's a fact that Nintendo is financially sound. I don't think anyone is going to argue that. What's hard for me to understand is, where are the games?
I love Nintendo games. Wii U needed 3D Mario out of the gate with a Metroid Prime quality game 2 months later. My Wii U has literally sat untouched for a year. Terrible.

I couldn't agree more.

My point before was directed towards the home console market. If Wii U flops, I'm not sure we will see another home system. Handheld is a different story entirely. Why Nintendo didn't create a more innovative or powerful system out of the Wii U, I'm not sure, but it's the lack of great 1st party games that is killing it, which is the reason to buy a Wii U in the first place since 3rd party support is lacking.

No worries, he also said later that was he "basically rushing to the end"... So it's not 100% complete. We also don't know if it's like 3D Land and there's a whole other game after the end. It's EAD, I am not concerned at all.

LMM, after playing through NSMBU, is Super Luigi that much better? NSMBU is probably up there with SMW for me, I may be in the minority but I absolutely love the game and think its one of the best 2D Mario's.

It's also worth mentioning that another person mentioned (remember, there's a review embargo right now) that "anyone who has played 3D Land knows finishing the game isn't really finishing the game at all, that's all I can say."

Not gonna post it for spoilers sake but apparently there's a fifth playable character. My guess is Bowser or one of the koopa kids.

Is it bad that I'm many, many times more excited for this and the 3DS Zelda than I am for any of the new consoles and launch games?

Not really, launch games across the board look pretty weak.
