Which DVD/Blu-ray merchants got the most money from you last year?
Because it's a rainy Sunday, I've been sitting at the computer for the last hour or so, trying to figure out which DVD/Blu-ray sellers got the most money from me last year. I've been keeping track of purchases in the "DVD/BR Spending Tab" thread in the DVD Talk sub-forum for the past two years, and I thought that it might be interesting to see how much various retailers got from me last year. So, I crunched the numbers and here's what I discovered:
1. Walmart got the majority of my DVD/Blu-ray business last year. I combined how much I spent both online and at B&M stores, and I ended up spending somewhere around $350 dollars with them on 49 items, with 20.6% of my total disc spending going to them.
2. GoHastings came in second last year. I spent $270.68 with them on 109 items. I have a feeling that GoHastings would have been at the top of the spending heap if I had discovered them earlier--my first order from them didn't come until around June 1st of last year. GoHastings accounted for 16% of my disc spending last year.
3. Amazon and Best Buy were in a dead heat for third place last year. I spent somewhere around $200 with each of them on discs, and each of them got about 12% of my total disc expenditures last year.
So, to which retailer did most of your disc budget go last year?

Has to be Amazon since a large portion of my spending was with them during the BF weekend.

Has to be Amazon for me, with Wal-Mart a distant second.

DVD Empire is my go to. I have no Credit Card, so DVD Empire is the only retailer that accepts Money Orders still. So that's my option, really. They're not a bad store at all. Very prompt and decent pricing.

Why not get a Debit Card from your checking account? Or even just get a prepaid Visa/Mastercard? I see those at the grocery store all the time.

With all due respect, I'd rather not. But I have reasons. I am trying to get Paypal working for me, though. So there's that consolation.

My big three used to be Deep Discount, Blockbuster (used), and Amazon. Now DD and Blockbuster are basically nothing. And Amazon these days gets only a little of my $, re. DVDs and Blus. So last year it was predominately Target, Best Buy, and a lot of garage/rummage sales. A fair amount of Walmart action, too.

Bought 208 Titles last year, for a grand total of $448.72
#1 Walmart ... $162.85 (70 Titles)
#2 Big Lots ... $95.02 (34 Titles)
#3 Best Buy ... $55.18 (21 Titles)
#4 Kmart ... $41.96 (37 Titles)
#5 Video Stores ... $34.98 (11 Titles)
#6 Target ... $25 (5 Titles)
#7 Garage Sales/Flea Markets/Thrift Stores/Pawn Shops ... $16.73 (14 Titles)
#8 Dollar Tree ... $11 (11 Titles)
#9 Dollar General ... $6 (2 Titles)
I've been keeping track of my media spending since 2008.
I probably spend the most at Walmart for movies than any other retailer, every year.
