Duets -- New Music Competition Series -- Thursdays (ABC)

ABC announced today the eight young amateur singers who will partner with Superstars Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke in the network's newest music series, "Duets," premiering THURSDAY, MAY 24 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET). Hosted by Quddus ("Total Request Live"), "Duets" is a one-of a kind singing competition that takes the Superstars out from behind the judges' panel and onto the stage. Clarkson, Legend, Nettles and Thicke individually set out on a journey across America looking for undiscovered talent worthy of being their Duet Partners. Ultimately, each Superstar will choose two singers to be his/her partners. Together the Superstars and their partners take the stage each week and perform in front of a live studio audience. In the end, only one duet will be at the top of the charts, and the winning partner will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

I figured this deserved at least 1 thread for the few who may watch this tonight. But as for me, I think I need a long extended hiatus from music competition shows. I watched X-Factor, Idol and The Voice this season and I'm fried.

For everyone else who isn't, enjoy!!

I do like Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Nettles though, but I just can't do it this summer.

Horrible. I gave it a shot, but I won't be watching this again. The scoring system is idiotic and the talent level just wasn't high enough, especially considering there are only eight competitors.

Were they even singing live? It looked like lip-synching.

I'm assuming Thicke is Alan (Growing Pains) Thicke's son - his head and hair look the same.

I gave this a shot but it was so boring. I stopped paying attention probably about 40 minutes in.

How's the music? I never care about the competition aspect, but I'm always up for good musical performances.

This was absolutely terrible. They never once explained the voting, which for an ABC show not to explain the rules is like bizarro world. The performances flat out sucked. Jennifer Nettles makes more faces than she sings than Mayer and Matthews combined. Boring garbage that I will never waste time with again.

Bring back Rock Star already.

I missed this show, I'll try to catch it next Thursday.

There was a similar show a year or two ago on Country Music Television, "Can You Duet"

The winner of Season Two was Steel Magnolia, a cute couple. I saw them at a local festival last year - here is one of their hits:

Re: Duets -- New Music Competition Series -- Thursdays (ABC)

Duets was infinitely better than this. For one thing, the contestants performed original songs & we're all pretty good (see Steel Magnolias above).

I think this thing failed in two key areas - the judges have no chemistry together & there's not a single contestant that showed any charisma or made me care how they do next week. In fact, I can't remember anything about any of them, except that one had pink hair & one was fat.

And did I hallucinate this or didn't one of the early commercials have Lionel Ritchie instead of John Legend?

^^ Lionel Richie pulled out late due to "Scheduling conflicts" and John Legend was a last minute replacement. I believe Richie might be out promoting his new country CD and that's why he didn't have the time.

I watched one song of the second show - "You'd Better Shape Up" from Grease.

I dunno - no chemistry. Seems like the singers were randomly paired.

Yeah agree... This just sucked. Maybe if they have Thicke's wife on Ill tune in, but this was just awful.

That's the one singing show I liked. At least they did real songs and not the constant over produced pop ballads like all the others.
