Sequels where the original is treated as a film within the film?
What movie sequels treat the original movie...as if it were a movie in the world of the sequel?
Right now I can think of Blair Witch: Book of Shadows and
. What others are there?

Wes Craven's New Nightmare recognizes the prior films as films within that universe.

It doesn't count, but Return of the Living Dead was originally going to be based on John Russo's novel sequel to Night of the Living Dead. The finished product refers to NOTLD as a film based on real events.

(Gone in 60 Seconds being the "Previous" film)

Gremlins 2 had a scene where Gremlins 1 was reviewed on VHS. ...I got nothing.

A perfect example of what the OP was looking for:
In the sequel, JOLSON SINGS AGAIN (1949), Larry Parks, as singer Al Jolson, sits in a movie theater watching Parks as Jolson onscreen in THE JOLSON STORY (1946).

I'd say Return of the Living Dead qualifies. It shares the "Living Dead" title with NOTLD, so it has that connection.
The Scream series sort of does this with the "Stab" movies-within-the-movie that are based on the previous "Scream" installments.
The Blair Witch Project/Blair Witch 2 one is kind of unusual in that, because of the nature of "Blair Witch Project," a sequel would almost have to treat the original movie as a movie because it passed itself off as a documentary made of found footage.

This is probably bending the rules a bit, but can we count sequels that replayed scenes from the original, to remind viewers what came before? If so, we can put Superman II, Police Story II, Rocky II, and The Rage: Carrie 2.
There's also weird cases like The Limey, which isn't really a sequel to Poor Cow but showed scenes from it as if they were flashbacks of Stamp's Limey character.

How about Spaceballs, where the sequel of the film is treated as a film within the film.

I normally don't care that much, but I didn't know that about
and, frankly, I'm kinda annoyed that I read it now.
You might want to spoiler that shit since most people haven't seen the film and don't know much about it.

Yeah, well I heard it on Stern months ago so I thought it was common info. Sure I'll spoilerize it, but you ought to do the same in your post, otherwise it would still be revealed in the thread.

someone complaining about lack of spoilering yet does it himself in the very post. I'm impressed.
