Assuming the news that Buy.com are taking on outstanding orders is true, where does that leave international customers? Buy currently don't ship overseas - so will that leave preorders effectively cancelled? Will try and find out and report back...

I e-mailed buy.com's U.S. branch yesterday, and got a totally useless e-mail syaing that they were unable to give any information, and to contact them again in 3-7 business days.
Sorry if that's not much use.

And even if they ship internationally: reel had the advantage of shipping from the EU (Belgium I think) and so there wasn't any tax to pay. If buy.com uses the standard US-mail it's time for 20% tax and customs.

I just got this email, so there is hope...

Christian,

Thank you for recent inquiry with buy.com. Buy.Com is planning on
honoring all gift certificates, coupons and Reel Bucks. We are
currently working on a way to integrate these into our system. We will
send out an email to Reel.com customers notifying them when we have the
ability to redeem these. We do not have an ETA at this time.
Again, thank you and have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Buy.Com Service Team

Original message follows:

A friend got this reply from Reel:

"Thanks for emailing us!

Unfortunately, all pending international orders will be canceled. We
apologize for this inconvenience.

If you have any other questions or concerns, click on the Web address
below to visit our "Help Desk" section..."

I have received a similar reply:

Unfortunately, all international orders will be cancelled. Buy.com does
not ship internationally at this time and they have no plans to do so.
You should be receiving emails by the end of the week, letting you know
which orders will be filled and which will not be filled. We apologize
for the inconvenience that this may cause.

Spoke with a CSR on the phone and she said that no decision had been made and that they hoped to fill all orders, domestic and international. Sounds like a crock to me, but we’ll wait and see.

Cancellations for Independence Day and Communion, looks like buy.com have no intention of honoring international orders - big surprise. Stupid people.

This is real sad - I hoped they would honor the orders - reel should have taken care of that!
Its a damn shame, looks like Amazon will get 5 new orders today then, although their prices aren't as cheap as they were ar Reel.com....

Yet more conflicting and contradictory information. Phoned buy.com again asking why my orders of Independence Day and Communion were cancelled and the CSR said that it would be a week before buy had properly assimilated Reel‘s database and could process outstanding orders properly. In the meantime, the coming weeks titles look like being cancelled. When I pressed him on honoring existing Reel.com international orders he said that it was only "new" international orders that could not be processed, but that the tentative plans were to accomodate existing international orders in some way as yet undetermined.

So, not a yes, but not a no. Let’s hope they do the decent thing.

Same here. Although, I'd rather receive none and have the chance to reorder elsewhere if they're not going to send them all. I won't be happy if they ship Deuce Bigalow at full price postage and then decide not to ship any more, thereby also losing my BFL rebate. That will be one expensive DVD

I can't even link to my Reel account, the link sends me to Buy.com.
I think people should keep writing to Buy.com. If enough people hound them, then these websites take notice. It seems to be how things work in the US, the individual can get ignored, but if a group is loud enough, then they take notice.
As for BFL, I've written but received no reply, I've also asked them to consider linking with another International DVD store like Bigstar or something simillar.
If enough people write, then perhaps those great bargains wont be lost altogether.

I posted in the online store forum, but not everyone reads that, so heres part of an e-mail I just got:
Unfortunately, at this time buy.com does not support shipping to
International, APO, FPO or Post Office boxes.

We are currently working on a method to fulfill all international
orders. We will keep our customer updated via E-mail.
For future reference, please visit the buy.com Customer Support Center,
located at https://www.us.buy.com/support/default.asp.

I would urge everyone to keep writing to these guys, perhaps with enough support they might honour our orders.

Well I had 15 preorders on 3 orders with reel up until last night. All canceeled. I dont think Reel/Buy had any dicussions regarding Internaltional customers. They have decided to say screw.

I was just thinking - and this is academic because I didn't have any orders fro them to cancel - but Buy.com has an embryonic site in the UK. It sells computer stuff at the present but who knows if they intend to branch out?

Why not send an email to the US CS people and to whatever contact addresses you can find on the UK site explaining your disappointment and how you will be passing on details of your bad Buy.com shopping experiences to all your friends colleagues etc.

The gist could be that you now consider that the company cannot be regarded as reliable in the US or the UK and is one to be avoided. Platitudes on their part will not cut the mustard: the only option to redeem their good name is by delivering the service that Reel were able to provide until the takeover. Can it hurt?

I phone buy.com in the US and they told me to speak to the UK. They told me that there is no immediate plans to sell DVD's and definitley not region 1 direct in the UK.Therefore it would suggest that this would take some time to set up and they would post the DVD's to the UK and ship from there.

I just posted in the bargains forum too. Reel/Buy.com are cancelling my 8/29 pre-orders and I suspect its only a matter of time before the rest are cancelled. I think Hollywood Entertainment is really going about this wrong..... whatever happened to smooth transitions, etc etc. Companies don't make decisions this quickly (at least mine doesn't) so they should have given us more advance warning.

With no BFL and Reel I'll be buying fewer DVD's and I'll be damned if Buy.com is going to get any of my business.

Why didn't Reel partner with a REAL on-line store like 800.com, Express.Com or Amazon.com

I know Express and Amazon would have taken care of us.
