Bruce Campbell Pushes For A Horror Version Of 'The Expendables'

Bruce Campbell Pushes For A Horror Version Of 'The Expendables'

At first this sounded like an April Fools-worthy kind of article. Think about it, you have Bruce Campbell shooting his mouth off wanting a horror actor version of "The Expendables". How totally cool would that be? After clicking on the link and reading what Campbell had to say, it could be a reality.

"Yeah, "The Expendables," or more like the "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" of horror. I want to get so many horror movie stars that people can't possibly not see the movie. I want to give them other stuff to do. I want to have Kane Hodder be very particular about what he eats. I want Robert Englund to be a tough guy, like he knows tae kwon do or something. I want to find out the hidden sides of all these people. Some will play themselves, some will play alternate characters as well. I may approach Kane Hodder to play Frankenstein. He could be Kane Hodder himself fighting himself as Frankenstein. It could be crazy. It's a silly concocted story that we hope to do maybe in a year or so."

A bloody good time with some of horror's best slashing it up on the screen together? Yeah, when can we have this Bruce? If you need your dose of the big-chinned man, you can check him out in episodes of "Burn Notice".

What about the rest of you, does this seem like a pretty good idea or is this just too stupid to become a reality?

I am so there if this happens!

It could be interesting, but I have a feeling that we're going to see a lot of 'Expendables'-type pitches soon, much like "Die Hard on a (insert setting)".

Have Sam Raimi direct it and I'm there.

Fun idea. I hope Bruce gets this made. However, it has exactly the same chances of disappointing people as The Expendables.

OMG...KNB yes....but I really fear this would suck on paper.

Re: Bruce Campbell Pushes For A Horror Version Of 'The Expendables'

Actually, I think this could be awesome on paper but could suck in reality, unless they get a writer/director that understands the genre well. Don Coscarelli would be an inspired choice but I dunno how well the world would receive something akin to Bubba Ho-Tep or the original Phantasm. Sure, I know I'd love it but that would most likely tank in the box office.

Truth.

Sounds good in theory when a bloated, coked-up, has-been D list actor riffs on the subject...but yeah.

Englund and Hodder? Meh, they lose any and all impact sans makeup. You need some horror icons that can carry their weight without prosthetics. Bruce Campbell is a good start. Ken Foree , Tobin Bell, Michael Berryman, Tony Todd, The Tall Man, Tom Savini.

Have these characters team up to fight Zombies, the Tall Man or maybe The Stuff. It could be good or very very bad.

Needs some scream queens though. Perhaps some of the old ones could play bit parts like cashiers or something. Quigleys' a must.

Actually I think I would enjoy seeing a Marvel Zombies movie much better (with the same talent as the mainstream flicks).

Belial mech....

Sometimes I hate these types of announcements. No script, no one else signed on, just an idea. Sounds very cool but will probably never happen. I wonder if he could talk Christopher Lee into reprising his role as Dracula?

Re: Bruce Campbell Pushes For A Horror Version Of 'The Expendables'

How many horror icons are there?

Campbell
Englund
Jamie Lee Curtis
Sigourney Weaver (not gonna happen)

Someone mentioned Foree and Savini, but those are even more cult figures than Campbell.

Re: Bruce Campbell Pushes For A Horror Version Of 'The Expendables'

The majority of horror icons that fans care about are hidden under masks and prosthetics.

Does it sound like a good concept? Sure, until you come to the realization that it would most certainly suck if it ever got made.

Unfortunately this will never happen, because its not based on simply getting actors, like the Expendables. Its based on getting horror "characters" which all owned by different studios. So it would and could never happen.

Re: Bruce Campbell Pushes For A Horror Version Of 'The Expendables'

Hasn't there kinda been attempts at this in the past? I seem to remember a few Horror Films hyping that they had 'alot" of Horror Icons in the movie. I believe Wishmaster was one of them and they all universally sucked so I don't hold out much hope for this and we already got a movie where teenagers fight all the "Horror icons" it was:

Thanks!

Re: Bruce Campbell Pushes For A Horror Version Of 'The Expendables'

We could certainly use another Creepshow-like movie (Trick R Treat did it last year). Either that, or some packed-full, epic horror movie (on the scope of In the Mouth of Madness).

The epic horror movie is coming... it's called At the Mountains of Madness.

And I'd rather if Campbell never came within a thousand miles of the production. Englund, maybe -- I could see him as one of the scientists on the expedition -- but Campbell isn't right for a serious horror movie.
