Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trilogy 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition ---> 8/4/09

From thedigitalbits.com:
This is just a quick early post with a little something for you pizza-snarfing TMNT fans: Warner Home Video is releasing all four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films in DVD and Blu-ray Disc 25th Anniversary Collector's Sets in August (8/2 to be exact). It's hard to believe it's really been 25 years. Anyway, the sets haven't been officially announced yet but they will be soon enough. And here's your proof: Warner's official promotional website.

Edit: Actually the 4 films are coming!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles originated in an American comic book published by Mirage Studios in 1984.

I'm all over this. #2 and 3 weren't very good but I'll probably get this on Blu.

These films bring back fond childhood memories. A likely purchase down the road.

The first and second I can see revisiting, depending on extras - the 4th was direct to video, was it not? With a girl turtle?

Was it? I thought that maybe they're including the animated movie.

It's the animated movie. You can tell on their webpage, the print on one of the discs and the box say TMNT. The girl I thought only appeared in a live action TV show.

I'm sure Vanilla Ice's "Ninja Rap" scene will look splendid in High Definition.

yeah, I am aware of this, but it still doesn't make much sense to call
the film boxset the 25th anniversary.

It's like calling the upcoming Batman Anthology Blu Ray collection the 70th Anniversary collection.

It's no big deal really, just an odd choice.

The film in the boxset will be the recent CGI flick TMNT, which used the previous films as it's rough back story.

The first four episodes of Ninja Turtles : The Next Mutation
were edited together for a video release in 1997 or so. But I think fox/saben owns the rights to this.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what extras they come up with. I wonder if
the Turtles 1990 musical career will be covered?

Any word on if the first will feature the much promised director's cut or if it will at least feature the full training montage that appeared in theater's but was missing on all home video versions?

Although the actual montage does appear on the VHS and DVD releases of the film, it excluded the footage of Leonardo taking on his three borthers and defeating them in order to prove that he is their rightful leader.

I'll be down for 1 and 2...but 3 does not deserve a DVD release, let alone a blu-ray release

You're right. It is kinda weird. It's like the 60th Anniversary Edition of Pearl Harbor.

I really dig the comic book cover art.

But who in the hell chose to use the Turtles from part three to advertise this on the website? That's about as bad as the piss poor cover chosen for the first BD/HD DVD release of TMNT.

I remember the director made a pretty recent comment that he would do the directors cut if the studio was interested.

I hope it happened and will be on this set

In for everything. I'm a Turtle whore.

I still remember seeing TMNT3 in theaters. Sad since it's the worst of the series. I saw TMNT two years ago and for some reason, am one of the only people who enjoyed it. I thought it was fun.

I think I like the fact that something in my youth is still around, even in today's day and age. Bring on the Blu-rays!

You're not alone, mcfly. I thought TMNT was great. I saw all the live action films in theaters. I enjoyed the third despite it indeed being the worst in the series.

I wish we'd get another animated film and another live action film done in the style of the first film. That to me is the one that truly captured the spirit of the original comics while still catering to the fans of the animated series (of which I was also a fan).
