The Cabin In The Woods (Dir. Goddard, 2010, Jenkins, Whitford)
http://thefilmstage.com/2009/01/21/d...-and-whitford/
Reuters reports Richard Jenkins (above left) has signed, and Bradley Whitford (above right) is close to signing, for two associated roles as “white-collar co-workers with a mysterious connection to the cabin”. The film is written by Lost collaborators Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard. Goddard also wrote last year’s excellent Cloverfield. Whedon said the casting signals what kind of movie they are hoping to make. “They’re the first proof that though ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ is a classic horror film, it isn’t one you’ve seen before.”
The Cabin In The Woods is set to be released February 5th, 2010.
Cloverfield was one of my favorite films of last year, and I love Lost so I can’t wait for this film. I’m confident they can put a new spin on the horror genre, especially with these new casting additions.

Great casting choices IMO and I'm extremely intrigued...I'm a big fan of Whedon and Goddard so I'm hoping for good things.

From The Hollywood Reporter:
Quintet moves into 'Cabin' film by Jay A. Fernandez
Joss Whedon-Drew Goddard pic pushed to February
Hey, kids: Don't forget the chocolate and marshmallows to make s'mores!
Camp counselors Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard have recruited Kristen Connolly ("Revolutionary Road"), Chris Hemsworth ("Star Trek"), Anna Hutchison ("Underbelly"), Fran Kranz ("The Village") and Jesse Williams ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2") for their fun little jaunt out to "The Cabin in the Woods." The United Artists horror film had already bagged Richard Jenkins ("The Visitor") and Bradley Whitford ("Bottle Shock").
The genre-tweaking screenplay was written by Whedon, who is producing, and Goddard, who is directing. The plot and character descriptions have been withheld by the filmmakers and the studio.
"Finding this ensemble has been very hard and very rewarding," Whedon said. "Each of the 'kids' is unique, fascinating and talented, and like true friends, the group is more than the sum of its parts. These are people you care about, able to go toe to toe with the amazing actors we've corralled thus far, and not unpretty in the bargain. I can't wait to harm them."

Another horror movie that doesn't need 3D. It makes you wonder if they have even filmed a frame of this movie if it has been pushed back a year.

You know, it doesn't need to be 3D; but if it exposes more people to Whedon, then be it.

I really hope this gets released though. Gotta give them credit for having a good sense of humor about it.

Re: The Cabin In The Woods (Dir. Goddard, 2010, Jenkins, Whitford)
Apparently Lions Gate has picked up the movie.
From JoBlo.com
Someone sensed stardom for Chris Hemsworth before he ever picked up the hammer for THOR... but we've yet to experience it ourselves since two of his high-profile roles have been sitting in a vault because of MGM's financial adversity.
Now thanks to Lionsgate, one of them will finally make it to theaters. The studio has grabbed CABIN IN THE WOODS, the horror flick directed by CLOVERFIELD writer Drew Goddard and co-written by Joss Whedon (who'll be working with Hemsworth again in THE AVENGERS).
No word yet on a release date, but it will likely be later this year. The movie has been gathering dust since MGM's initial scheduled release in October of 2009. The first delay was supposedly to convert the movie to 3D, although that may no longer be the eventual format.
The movie involves college kids experiencing terror and death at the titular locale, and also features familiar actors like Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford and Keith David.
Hemsworth's other big MGM movie, the remake of RED DAWN (in which he plays the Swayze role), is still hanging in limbo and apparently getting reworked villains so we don't anger our Chinese overlords.
I guess we'll be getting a theatrical release after all. So...that's awesome.
