LCD Monitor used as TV: which TV Box is better?

My goal is to use a 19 inch LCD monitor to watch DVDs and VHS tapes WITHOUT the use of a computer (eh, green, including in the wallet).
It looks like the way to go is to use a TV box, which has RGB/S-Video input and VGA etc. output. What products do you use and which do you recommend or advise to stay away from them? Or are there any other options?

TIA.

What is your video source or how do you intend to tune in tv channels?

I don't plan to watch TV on it (my TV tuner is barely used). As I said, a DVD player and a VCR are all I want to connect to this LCD monitor.
