Never could figure out why MTV's CGI Spiderman show from a few years back was cancelled. That was the best animated version of Spiderman ever IMO.

the Fox series from the 90's got spidey right. the stories were will written and christopher barnes was the perfect spidey voice. I thought the mtv series was horrible. spidey had no wisecracks and the villains were poorly done. kingpin, eddie brock, and kraven were done extremely well in the Fox animated series. I'll take spidey, x-men, and the batman series all from the 90's on blu-ray.

for you yes, for me not so much.
the 90's was the one that was very well done.

The 90's series had some of the worst animation I've ever seen. It would have been okay except for its poor visual quality.
The 90's X-men animation was already shoddy, but it's like they ramped it down a level or two for Spider-Man. Not to mention they interspersed crudely done CGI scenes for Spidey's webslinging. It was just bad. Not to mention the whole Madame Web thing they kept using over and over and over again.

I'll definitely check this out.
I was a big fan of the MTV series. It was the only time I've seen Spider-Man do truly impossible poses and movements outside of the comics - and that's a good thing.

I'll give this new show a chance but I've learned not to expect anything good from Marvel animation.

Yeah, the 90's series was piss poor from the animation on down.

I'll take characters that are dead on and entertaining episodes over great animation. no animation from that period in time was great. no cartoon series anyway. the black cat was hot though so the animation wasn't that bad.

Even so, I enjoyed the Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons of the 90's and would gladly pick them up on DVD. Where are they anyway?

Gargoyles
Were both produced at the same time as BTAS and Spider man. Both had excellent voice acting and story lines that were on par with BTAS. And both had animation that was light years ahead of Spider man.
I had a fonder view of Spider Man until I got to watch some of the shows fairly recently. When not viewed through the lens of nostalgia the shows themselves aren't very good at all. Or they just haven't aged well. Its sort of like re-watching a movie as an adult that you loved as a kid and realizing "wow, this sucks all kinds of ass".

You might also be thinking of Gargoyles with rose colored glasses. I enjoyed the show, but found the characters/plots about a step above TMNT.
Oh and this is another shot of Blade:

I'm not sure exactly what facial characteristics to look for, but his hair might be decidedly un-Caucasian? I don't know, looks black enough to me.

Many thanks to the OP! I was not aware of this new series and would have missed it for sure. But now I will definitely be checking it out. Also, looks like there will be two back-to-back episodes (30 min each) airing on 03/08 so watch out for that.
Per the discussion on the various previous series:
60's Spidey: I grew up on this one. This is the definitive *voice* for Spidey for me! The theme song is nothing short of a genuine classic, and the background music is also terrific IMO. The series is split into two parts. The first run featured Spidey battling his foes from the comics: Rhino, Vulture, Electro, Sandman, Doc Ock, Lizard, Green Goblin, Scorpion, etc. Fun stuff. Really fun. Yeah, it was aimed at little kids so the stories are simple. But they got the tone right. Spidey's sense of humor comes off really well. And Spidey's interactions with J.J.J were perfect! The 2nd run pretty much sucked (IMO). A different creative team took over and the stories were like weird acid trips. No longer resembled the tone of the comics. I own this dvd box set for the terrific first run -- all episodes of which are highly rewatchable to me. With the exception of maybe 2 or 3 episodes, the 2nd run is sadly unwatchable to me. But I recommend this box set for the first run alone.
90's: I like this one, too. Although like I said, the definitive voice for Spidey is the guy who did the 60's cartoon and I don't think any actor will ever be able to compare to that. Yeah, the animation in this series could be a bit crude at times. But the stories were generally pretty good and the continuity within this series was outstanding. I would buy this in a heartbeat if it ever came out on dvd. Same with the 90's X-Men series.
MTV: Didn't care for this one at all. Hope this new series is nothing like this one.

OK, to put this thread back on topic
.... has anyone seen the trailers/commercials for this new series? I was excited about this series ... until I saw the commercials.

It's clear from the animation style and dialog that this series is geared - big time - towards young children. Moreso than the first season of The Batman. If I were 8 or 9 I'd be into this, but it seems more like Spider-Man if he were done by the Goof Troop team.
