Question about posting stories on writing.com
I have just finished a book I have been writing and am trying to get some feedback on it, but I am finding it very difficult to get people to read it. I've been thinking about posting it chapter by chapter on a site called writing.com, but limiting it's access to just the members. I believe I read somewhere in their forums that you could do this and it wouldn't be considered publishing. I'm a little iffy about putting my story on the site because I've noticed that they have a lot of ads for vanity publishers. Any suggestions? Has anyone here ever had any experience with writing.com?

It could be a problem for some publishers. Best course of action is to submit the manuscript (it's not a book yet, so best not to call it that) to appropriate publishers. Work hard on your synopsis and/or outline (depending on what individual publishers request) - that's what will decide if they even start in on the first chapter.
Honestly, what a bunch of yahoos at writers.com think is irrelevant. Because the people at those sites are basically not real writers. They're not editors. They don't know anything you don't know.
