Usually I enjoy it when a whodunit show does some ongoing episodes with a super-smart serial killer. I liked Nicole Wallace on L&O: Criminal Intent, Paul Millander on CSI (Vegas), Jack Of All Trades on Profiler, Joey Heric on The Practice, etc.
But this serial killer on Bones doesn't seem realistic. He doesn't come across as a guy that's so smart he can outwit Booth and the squints. His ability to play them like puppets isn't believeable.
I knew the moment Bones got her hands on a gun that she'd be shooting someone. I like the Hodgins/Montenegro pairing. Still hate the new boss, but at least she wasn't in this episode too much.

This show's 8 p.m. timeslot probably works against it because it can get really dark in terms of storyline.
"Hodgey" was sort of a cute way for Angela to be addressing Hodges, and it's an escalation in the way they relate to one another, which prompted Bones' look at such a development between them. Zach has a different hairstyle, but he's still a geek. Seely's learning how to deal with the new boss.
I don't really like the actor playing the serial killer in prison, just too much of a dramatic light-weight, but story-wise, Bones has to confront the aftermath of taking another life, not just subdueing a would-be assailant with her self-defense moves.
