Question about digital cable
I currently have a Panny 42" EDTV and am looking to get digital cable. I am subscribed to cablevision but never got a digital box from them (don't want to have to pay for it every month). I'm thinking about buying a digital box off of ebay but have no idea which one to get. I've seen Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2200 , General Instrument Digital Cable Box Model: DCT 2244 ,Motorola Comcast Digital Cable Box DCT2224 to name a few.

I really doubt that you will be able to use it (especially the Moto). The usually have software loaded on them to allow you to use it with the provider. Unfortunately, if you want digital cable, you are going to have to rent the box through your provider.

They are required by law to allow you to purchase your own. But because of the hassle and the money it is hardly ever worth it. You'd have to get the models they will support, find one for a decent price, then get it loaded with your data, etc.
