Hey all, wondering if someone can help me out.

I have been using my PSP both for homebrew and games. I have the upgrader/downgrader thing, which tricks my system into thinking I am running 1.52 or whatever else. I have had perfect success with Madden and Burnout Legends. However, I just bought GTA today and it won't let me play it (presumably, I have to upgrade to 2.0 in order to get it to work "regular"). Anyone else having the same problem? Any solutions?

I thought all new games from here on out would force that upgrade.

Yeah, but with the version changer, you could play a 2.0 game on a 1.5 system. Hopefully they find one that works for this game....if not, it may sit sealed on my shelf until I really want to upgrade (which I probably won't)

*I did a little more reading on maxconsole.net and their doesn't seem to be a GOOD workaround yet. I think some people are upgrading then downgrading a lot, but I've read too many stories of bricked PSP's. Not sure what I'll do, I guess I'll just hang onto it for a while. I barely play my PSP anyways.

What does a "bricked" PSP mean?

Also, I have heard that many homebrew programs (i.e., cough, nester) will work on 2.0. Has anyone been using homebrew on 2.0? How well has it been working?

I don't think you can play homebrew on 2.0. I know ISO loaders (for those that copy their game to a memory stick to save on load times) and most NES/Genesis do not work

DJ, what does a "bricked psp" mean?

"Bricked" means it will not function anymore. The only thing it will be good for is to hit somebody in the head with it

Yeah, it basically means it will not power up anymore....and you are S.O.L.

I think SONY might fix it for you, but it'll cost you $125 or so. There is a program out there that wipes out all the system files. I think it was connected with downgrading (or upgrading)

I hope all games are not like this...but I'm sure they will be. Sony is really screwing over a majority of the PSP users. I may not even open GTA since I don't want to upgrade

Maybe Sony is hoping hard core gamers will buy another PSP to play newer games and keep their 1.5 versions for homebrew.

There is supposedly a new way to use some homebrew applications on 2.0, but it sounds like it is a pain in the butt to implement.

just curious, and I only in the market to buy a PSP. But what if you do not have the ability to upgrade to 2.0? as in no internet connectivity.

The game disc includes any firmware update that is required.

it is required....no version changer or fast loader will work....for one thing the videos and cinemas on GTA use the new video format only supported by the 2.0 firmware....

if you want to play you will have to upgrade to 2.0...you can always downgrade back down to 1.5 (look around for info on how to do it), but you can ONLY downgrade from a 2.0 system....not 2.01 or 2.5
