The Marvel Superheroes '66 Collection - 6/28/05
While browsing through Amazon.com upcoming releases, I found the date of release of this Marvel Superheroes Collection from 1966. I remember the series vaguely and I think it was almost like someone narrating the action from comic book panels of Captain America, Iron Man, Namor and the Hulk. I saw this back when I was 4 years old around the early 80's and in Spanish, so the memory of the quality of the sereis and if it was good at all, its a little hazy. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...365965-3035331
If someone has more info of what's on the set, please post.

Huh... I thought that Buena Vista had delayed this indefinitely and put out the Fantastic Four box set in lieu of it...
The fact that amazon still has it up for preorder months after its supposed delay strikes me as very interesting...

Well, a good start is to read the couple of reviews on Amazon's page that you linked to.
I'm too young to remember the series. I was born 7 years later. But from the reviews written it appears that the animation was very crude in that the whole thing was basically video based comic book cells with small animations. The selling point was the voice actors which brought the comics to life.

The theme songs from those 60's cartoons are still stuck in my mind. They used to show them on TV every afternoon in the late 70's and I still fondly remember watching them. I remember a Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Namor and Captain America cartoon along with the famous Spider Man one they showed as well. This is a must buy and I still need to get the Spider Man set as well.
It is just comic panels, but that means classic Jack Kirby art so this set is a must for me as I loved comics from the 60's and 70's.

I watched it back in the 70s and enjoyed it. Yes, the "animation" is mostly stills from the comics with moving elements (such as Captain America's zooming across the panel), but as Darkside said, it's all classic Jack Kirby art, so it looks really cool. And the voices are adequate, the theme songs are great. I'll be getting it.

these were shown here in boston on fox 25 back in the late 70`s,at the time channel 25 back in the late 70`s was owned by pat robertson of the 700 club, religion outfit, they would not allow or show thor or sub-mariner cartoons because of thier religious beliefs,so some 25 years later I can finally see thor and sub-mariner.

I was at a comic book shop 3-4 years ago and the owner had one of these on, the Fantastic Four I think, with the sound down, and so here's the Ben Grimm character like, running at top speed, but it was against a featureless yellow background and nothing on his body was moving but his legs, which were moving in such a frantic fashion that they were almost going around in a circle at the point of his hips. But the kicker was it kept going...and going...and going. For minutes. Nothing was happening but this insane running. I assume the narrator was saying something dramatic or profound but just the video playing was a riot.

JesseCuster, The Fantastic Four thing you saw is unrelated... different series.
However, THAT you can see on Boomerang pretty frequently. You're right, it's awful. Shockingly, it's more "animated" than the other Marvel Superheroes, but less good... ; )
