And The Man Playing Thomas Magnum in the Upcoming "Magnum PI" Feature Is...

Tom Selleck! Couldn't have made a better choice!

Didn't know if this would be better in the TV or Movie forum...but put it here, since this is going to be a theatrical film.

Yes, but are they going to bring back the same costume designer? Where would Magnum be without his short shorts?

I so want to write this movie (I have had the whole first act written up).. and basically pick it up where it left off...

Spoiler:
Magnum re-enlisted with Naval Intelligence... but it was never resolved at Rick's wedding if Higgins was Robin Masters or not (he recanted everything he told Magnum), Rick never did get out the words "I do", TC got back together with his wife and Magnum's daughter should be about 18 now.

I think it could ge a great adventure to find out who Robin Masters really is (my plotline was that the guy hired to be Robin was told that Higgins was giving up writing those novels and concentrate on his memoirs, so the the fake Robin comes and tries to kill him off since he was the only one to really know the secret.)

I really want to see what Clancy started to put to paper when he was doing a version of the Magnum PI script.

Well, if they were going to do a Magnum, the only way I'd give it the time of day is if Selleck reprised the role. So, good news. I'm wondering though if they'll set the story with Magnum being older, or use makeup and training to make him look younger. He still looks like he's in great shape, and he does look a bit younger than his age.

This is good news. The only other actor I would have considered would have been George Clooney (with mustache).

Ehh, I mean there's no point to this if you have the same actor. It'd be like casting Don Johnson in the new Miami Vice movie.

Yes, Colin "Alexander" Farrell is a much better choice.

You've got that backwards. There is not point to this if you have anyone else but the real Magnum PI. Anyone else would suck.

That's very, very good news. Selleck is a very good actor and Lord knows he's still a sexy dish. Man made Ike look foxy.

Oh c'mon you think Don Johnson is gonna sell more tickets than Colin Farrell? I understand everyone likes to see the original actor play the same character but to me it sounds like a TV-movie-of-the-week. I grew up watching MacGyver. If they made a new MacGyver movie with Richard Dean Anderson I probably wouldn't go see it. I love the TV series but that was an era that I've long forgotten. It's just weird.

Well, I think your priorities need adjusting Popcorn. Who cares how many tickets it sells. All I care about is if it's a good movie or not, and that the character is as close to Magnum as possible. I'm sorry, but Colin Ferrell or George Clooney as Magnum would suck royally, especially compared to Tom Selleck. Then again, anyone other than Selleck would suck playing Magnum.

Personally, I think more people will go to the film if its better than if it has some big name star. Then again, Tom Selleck isn't exactly some small character actor that people never heard of, and he's a better actor as far as I'm concerned than Clooney Ferrell.

For what it's worth Popcorn, Ferrell didn't sell many tickets to Alexander, Swat, The Recruit, or Phone Booth. So at this point, I'd have to say Johnson.
