Oscar Nominations

I gotta run so I can't post the full list but I just saw the announcement and Paul Giammatti was NOT nominated for Sideways. Whoah! Clint got his spot.

Haven't seen not a one of the Best Picture noms, likely won't. Could care less this year, bummer about Spider-Man 2 not getting a BP nom, then I'd have a movie to root for, but I'm sure Spider-Man 2 will get the Sound and Visual Effects awards. Also, if Shrek 2 beats the Incredibles, well, then theres no hope. Shrek 2 was the biggest piece of shit this year, and that's saying a lot, lest we remember Catwoman came out this year.

Is there anyone who feels that Jamie Foxx didn't deserve a nomination for Collateral?

Moore wouldn't submit it for best documentary and it wasn't eligible for best picture because it's on pay-per-view for some reason.

No best picture nod for Eternal Sunshine, probably because it came out in March.

F9/11 was eligible for Best Picture, although it's no surprise that it didn't get a nod. It lost eligibility for Best Documentary because it played on television.

I'm very happy that HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS is snubbed. Lookie, it's not included in the Best Foreign Film noms, yes!

Some trivia tid-bits:

BEST ACTOR
Don Cheadle, Leonardo DiCaprio* and Jamie Foxx get their FIRST NOMINATIONS for this category

*Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated in 1993 for Best Supporting Actor (What's Eating Gilbert Grape)

----

Johnny Depp gets his 2nd consectitive Best Actor nomination (last year for Pirates...)

----

This is the 2nd time Clint Eastwood directed himself to a Best Actor nomination - the last time was in 1993 for Unforgiven.

From looking at the nomination list...

...I think The Aviator will win the most Oscars.

You're forgetting that AMPAS voters usually like to avoid controversy, and The Aviator is the type of film that AMPAS voters like. I think Cate Blanchett will likely win Best Supporting Actress for The Aviator, and Martin Scorsese will likely win for Best Director almost as a Lifetime Achievement Award.

I know that the best animated feature is pretty much a filler of a category but nominating Shark Tale instead of Polar Express doesn't make sense to me.

Ive seen all of the Best Picture nominees except Sideways. I may try to see it before the Oscars.

IMO, Million Dollar Baby is the best of that group. Great Movie.

I had no interest in the story after reading about it, but I watched it anyways. It was good enough to suck me in. I hope it wins.

The Aviator was decent, but felt kinda bloated to me. It will probably win though.

Of course F/911 didn't get nominated. Why would anyone want to reward a film for being a failure at its whole point of being?

Michael Moore is a hippocitie as well. Before the election, he said that he wouldn't try to get an oscar for it. After it failed, he then talked about trying to get an award for it.

I thought Polar Express was awful so I don't care that it didn't get nominated. It did surprise me though. Didn't see Shark Tale. The Incredibles should run away with this one.

I thought he was good in the movie but he's not going to win. Apparently he's the frontrunner for Best Actor but given the other people nominated they might be setting Foxx up for a disappointment.

Not true. Before the election he allowed it to play on television, saying that although it would remove it from the running for Best Documentary, he would still campaign for it to win Best Picture.

I was very surprised when I saw that Shrek 2 is now the third highest grossing movie of all time in the US. I will be appalled if it wins an Oscar as well, especially over the superior The Incredibles.

As the only person on the forum who liked Shrek 2, let me assure everybody that it won't win Best Animated Feature.

I think so, especially now I've seen the movie a second time last weekend. I have better appreciation for its fast-moving plot now that I have managed to subtract out my complaints of excessive action.

I'm kind of surprised at all the attention Ray is getting for a movie. I think Foxx did a great job portraying him and arguably deserves the Oscar, but I feel that movie does not deserve to be nominated for Best Picture.

To Don Cheadle - I've been a fan of his for years.

Also, not surprised about Paul Giamatti not getting the nom. Even though he did a good job in Sideways, he is in no way leading man material yet. He'll get his due eventually.
